Model turned actor Rafael Rosell has been in the showbiz indsutry for a long time now, but it is only now that he is being recognized for his acting. Rafael was named Best Supporting Actor in the recently-concluded Urian Awards for his performance in Rome and Juliet.
ABS-CBN Star Magic talent Rafael Rosell is now reaping the fruits of his patience and hard work. In the recently concluded Gawad Urian, he bagged the Best Supporting Actor award for his performance in Connie Macatuno’s Cinema One Original movie Rome and Juliet.
Nag-expect ba si Rafael na makakatanggap siya ng award nang tanggapin niya ang role for the said indie film?
“Honestly, hindi po. But in everything I do kasi, I always give my best. I didn’t expect to win and during the awards night nga, I saw Jeffrey Quizon, Allan Paulle, and Ping Medina there—my co-nominees—kaya ninenerbiyos na ako. I’m really glad I was there to personally accept my first acting award. It’s so overwhelming. That night was one of the most memorable in my entire life,” kuwento ni Rafael nang makausap siya ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) sa kanyang solo presscon sa 14th floor ng ABS-CBN.
“Actually, yung nomination pa lang from a reputable award-giving body such as the Gawad Urian was enough reason na to celebrate na e. What more pa nang tawagin ang name ko as a winner? Grabe, ang saya ko talaga! I had almost five-days celebration nga, sunud-sunod ang blow-out ko sa mga friends ko.”
Dagdag niya, “Thankful din ako sa lahat who have been very supportive of my career especially my ABS-CBN Star Magic family.”
Sobrang proud din ang binata sa magagandang papuring naririnig niya from his acting sa Rome and Juliet. And to quote Manunuri Butch Francisco in his column in Philippine Star, “His victory might have come as a surprise to many who look at him merely as a hunk with the fine mestizo looks… The Manunuri thinks that he actually delivered an award-winning performance and the result is an Urian trophy.”
LUCKY YEAR. Mukhang maganda talaga ang taong 2007 kay Rafael dahil pagkatapos niyang mapanood sa fantaseryeng Rounin ay muli siyang makikita sa afternoon drama series na Prinsesa ng Banyera kasama sina Kristine Hermosa, Angelika dela Cruz, at TJ Trinidad. Regular din siya sa ASAP ‘07 as one of the Coverboys along with Jake Cuenca and Zanjoe Marudo.
“Happy ako kasi hindi ako nawawalan ng projects sa ABS-CBN at pinagkakatiwalaan nila ako. That’s why in every projects I do, I make it a point na nag-e-excel ako para hindi naman sila ma-disappoint sa break na ibinibigay nila sa akin. Even yung pagsasalita ko ng Tagalog, talagang pinag-aaralan. Seven years na ako dito sa showbiz and I should say that everything is going smoothly with my career. Satisfied ako that I’m able to share my talent,” sabi ni Rafael.
Aside from being busy now with TV shows, Rafael is also part of the 20th anniversary TV commercial of Bench, where he displayed his hunky physique which a lot of people would not mind seeing over and over again.
On the cover of the 2008 edition of Star Magic catalogue ay isa rin ang mukha ni Rafael na nasa cover at isa siya sa tinawag na “Torch Bearers” kung saan kahilera niya sina Piolo Pascual, Sam Milby, Diether Ocampo, John Lloyd Cruz, Dominic Ochoa, and Carlos Agassi.
Regarding naman sa lovelife ni Rafael, inspirado ang binata sa piling ng girlfriend niyang nagngangalang Malaya Lewdinski na kasamahan niya sa Star Magic. Going stronger daw ang kanilang relationship at ngayon lang daw siya nakahanap ng girlfriend na boto ang halos lahat ng kanyang friends at maging ang kanyang family. He is hoping na magtagal pa ang kanilang samahan.
