Brothers & Sisters - Have you ever watched it?

I have been on a Brothers & Sisters DVD marathon since last week. I really love that show and no one can pry me away from the tube if I’m watching. I just get myself a glass of wine (or two) and watch the DVDs. I have been sleeping late every night because I cannot stop when an episode ends. I need to find out what happens next. I am trying to get my friend into it as well. I lent him the First Season while I started the Second Season last weekend. He hasn’t started watching yet because he still has all his shows that he’s following like Amazing Race, Charm School and all that.

Anyway, I was at the part now where Tommy’s wife is finally pregnant. They were excited about it and found out that they are actually having twins. They were thinking of baby names and when they found out that it’s a boy and a girl, they decided to name the boy “William”, under Tommy’s dad’s memory. I didn’t realize how important that was and why people do that but it made perfect sense. It’s a way to keep the memory of a person alive and well. People do that today and they always will. Naming your baby is really as important as the meaning behind it. I don’t know if I will ever have the chance to name a baby unless I have my own. I wonder what would be a good name for a baby girl? Hmmm.

Pregnancy could be tough too! I am now at the part where Kitty inadvertently got pregnant, while Robert McAllister is running for president. Then she suffered a miscarriage. It must be devastating for first-time would-be moms to have to go through that. They do have things that you can do to prevent miscarriage at best. Pregnancy, week by week changes so much that if you’re not careful, could definitely affect the baby’s health. There is so much drama on the show it’s so realistic that I can’t stop watching! Going to disc number two, Season Two - tonight.

During this time of year, I know most of us travel during the holidays. Our family Christmas celebration will be held in NYC this year. I am coordinating flights and hotels for out-of-town relatives so that we can enjoy the holidays together. Feel the pinch?! Oh yes - it’s time to cut down costs.

I’m trying to face the reality of this economy. It’s hard to swallow really because every price I look at, whether items for daily use or long term use - prices have gone up. I’m starting to see the effect of the economy in my wallet. And this is happening to someone who has saved fairly well and has prepared for any emergencies that may occur in life. I am still feeling the pinch.  The pinch may not hurt that much YET, but I’m still feeling it.

Living in New Jersey doesn’t help either. This is the state with the highest car insurance rate in the country! I have been paying an arm and a leg for car insurance for years. I’ve learned to be creative and find the best car insurance rate in the market every two years. I think, with anyone who is cognizant of inflation and financial problems that may arise, you have to take precautions in order to get your expenses down and keep most of your savings up.

I went online and Googled the words “car insurance cheap” to find the best rate I could find within my area. I was glad to have found a site where I could get free auto insurance quotes with no obligation whatsoever. It’s during these times of financial hardship where we must find areas where we could cut costs. I have already reduced my cable down to basic. I don’t even get to watch TV anymore so why pay for the 200 plus channels right? I let go of my “extra” features on my home phone. Who uses their home phone these days anyway?

Family is almost set for Christmas in NYC this year! Woohoo!

Well peeps, I’m in charge of our family reunion this year. We all decided that we will have a grand reunion on Christmas in New York City! How about that? I cannot imagine a better place to celebrate Christmas With all the decorations in Manhattang, the Rockefeller Plaza, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and many other things to do - this is going to be perfect. I’ve already sent out the invitation during the last week of September and the response has been overwhelming.

The one thing we’re trying to organize is some kind of a field trip during the day while we’re all there. It’s not going to be pretty to cram all the relatives in one house and let them stay there for hours. In order to give everyone a break, my nieces and I are organizing a trip to Manhattan via Bus Charter NYC. They provide day tours to Manhattan (they also provide day tours to other cities like Boston, Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Washington DC and Baltimore, MD) that would probably be ideal for the family to get out in the cold, have some hot pretzels and hot cocoa in Manhattan while we all stroll around FAO Schwartz, 5th Avenue, or Times Square. Simply thinking about it gets me excited.

Malen - what do you think of these beads?

I am very surprised at Malen’s talent really. Malen is a friend and a blogger like me. She has a specific website dedicated to beading called Beading 101. She blogs about the process and how to create jewelries using beads. She has done some wonderful creations with it.  She has several blogs and the one that I really visit is her humor blog.  I did notice however that she does have a great talent in creating jewelry design using ordinary beads.  Not only can she make it look elegant, it’s quite simple to make as well. (so she says!) Haha!

I hope that one day, she will create a piece using gemstone beads. I think it will be fantastic! She already has the knack for design, yet I would like to see more of her creation using Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire or Diamond beads. It will probably catch a niche on the high-end market. Who knows? She may be the one to supply accessories to the famous Filipina couturier, Monique Lhuillier someday. ;)  Could you imagine your creation adorning the likes of Celine Dion, Katie Holmes, Sarah Jessica Parker?  Oh to dream huh?

AIG.. got some kind of a Payday Loan from the Govt.

Should I go back to DirecTV?

I had recently asked my satellite provider, DIRECTV to downgrade my subscription. I was subscribed to their basic channels plus the Filipino Channels like GMA and ABS-CBN. It was really taking a toll on me just because I was thinking of cutting expenses.  With the prices going up like crazy these days (of anything!), I figured it would be good for me to trim down.

I calculated my expenses and as I visited the Filipino restaurant near my place over the weekend, I asked them how much they are paying for the Filipino channels that they have at the store.  I was surprised to find that I can actually select the basic channels and the Filipino channels at half the price that I was paying before!  I didn’t know that!  I was paying a premium because I chose more channels to add to my subscription not knowing I can do an ala carte-type of choices with DirecTV.

Now, I’m thinking of having the channels switched back on.  Let’s see how it goes when I come back from my trip.  I may just re-instate my subscription to DirecTV.

Sheesh! Folks, listen. I didn’t work for I.T. to know all the code and languages in the world. I only work as a PM, that’s all. The problem is, every time I am asked what I do for a living, I get asked a million different questions about hardware and software stuff right behind it. I work for I.T. but I am the least technical person you ever want to speak with.

The last time I got a phone call at work from a user in our Chicago office asking me what Error Code 39 means? After I got my composure back, I simply told her nicely that she really should contact our Technical Support department or look it up on line. They have libraries out there that provide what those errors are and resolutions as well. I’m not a technical guy but every time I get errors on my PC at home, I don’t just go calling all support around the globe - I do my research first. 99 to 1, the answer is online. I, being a non-techie person resolved my PC issues without calling anyone. Do some research first. That answer is there.

There’s actually an old boss that I really liked whom I lost touch with that I wanted to look up just to see what he’s been up to lately. I have yet to give him a call though. I don’t want to give him a heart attack.. haha!
