Penshoppe has been grabbing Hollywood A-Listers lately to promote their brand.
The last Hollywood actor to model for Penshoppe was Zac Efron which was added to the fine list of Hollywood stars to have become the product endorser. Among the Penshoppe #AllStars were Leighton Meester, Ed Westwick, and Zac Efron.
According to ABS-CBN News, Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder is the latest to become Penshoppe’s endorser and has recently arrived in Manila to do the photoshoot. The actor flew to El Nido, Palawan on Sunday.

Twitter was ablaze last night with praise to Filipino Couture Designer, Oliver Tolentino. The first time I ever heard of the designer and I wondered who he is. He supposedly designed the gown that American Idol 11 Top 3 Finalist Filipino-Mexican Jessica Sanchez.
So, I searched the web for Oliver Tolentino and here’s what I found. He is more established as a designer than I thought.
Tolentino, the favorite designer of Imelda Marcos, is a rising star known for his meticulous attention to detail in his designs. Among the Hollywood celebrities who have worn Tolentino creations are Niecy Nash (Dancing with the Stars, Clean House, The Insider) for her 2010 Emmy win; recording artist Macy Gray, Grammy winner Patti Austin, Tony winner Lea Salonga. Kimora Lee Simmons, and Vivica Fox. Tolentino, who has been called the Filipino Valentino, became the first Philippine-based designer to establish a presence in the United States, launching his Melrose Avenue boutique in West Hollywood in 2009.
Within a year of opening his Melrose Avenue boutique, he was asked to present at Downtown Los Angeles Fashion Week and was selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as one of nine finalists for the Oscars Designer Challenge. – Source

Literally, it took me a few months to catch up on the hottest television series sweeping the Philippines. I had all the shows recorded on my DVR and had to start it from the very beginning, prohibiting my friends from telling me anything about the story line.
Yes, it’s ABS-CBN’s “Walang Hanggan”, starring Coco Martin (Daniel), Julia Montes (Katerina), Richard Gomez (Marco), Dawn Zulueta (Emily) and powerhouse veteran actors like Susan Roces and Helen Gamboa.
I was in Chicago back in February when one of my friends whom I was staying with, watched an episode of the show. He was soooo excited that it made me wonder what the show was all about.
Now, I am finally caught up and still waiting for that DNA testing to occur to find out if Daniel is really the son of Marco and Emily. The last episode gave me chills when Nathan (Paulo Avelino) found out that Katerina is staying with Daniel at the old mansion Katerina’s family used to own. I can’t wait for tonight’s episode!
Anyone out there watching “Walang Hanggan”? Or maybe a better question is, “Is anyone out there NOT watching “Walang Hanggan”?

Customized Louis Vuitton Train Rumored Production Cost to LV? $8 Million Dollars
You may have missed it. At the 2012 Paris Fashion Week, Louis Vuitton showcased their Fall 2012 / 2013 fashion by having a train drive into the runway and unload all the models carrying or wearing LV fashion. It was a grand gesture that caught the attention of headline news sources and fashionistas around the globe.
Guess what? It is rumored to have a price tag of $8 million dollars. Rumors got started on how much the production cost was when Business of Fashion tweeted, “OK, apparently that custom built @LouisVuitton train at the A/W 2012 show cost 8 MILLION DOLLARS.”
People are trying to find out if this is true but Louis Vuitton declined to comment.
Whoah!! What a way to make a statement. And besides, don’t they say that luxury items are not affected by recession?

Bryanboy and Chikatime revisited once again – - socialites, scandals and all. On the cover of The New York Observer.
I happen to run into this article today (published on February 8th) on The New York Observer. A complete write-up about the rise of Bryanboy.com into the mainstream fashion industry.
I have been blogging for a while now and although my blog started in 2006, I really didn’t get involved in blogging heavily until 2007 where Bryanboy was one of the most famous Filipino bloggers around.
I had followed him and his story (and was also in-the-know regarding the scandalous and mostly hilarious posts by the now closed blog, Chikatime) and I am actually impressed with what Bryan done with his notoriety. He entered the fashion world by storm, starting with the connections he made with Marc Jacobs during his early blogging days.
Now, he’s on the cover of the New York Observer. Besides being able to sit next to Anna Wintour during fashion shows, meet with famous designers and models, he is actually traveling the world going from one fashion week to the next.
It seems weird now to associate him with the scandals way back when Chikatime was posting some of the most scandalous rumors about Philippine socialites. Here’s a part of the write-up:
But in 2007, things changed for Bryan in Manila. An anonymous gossip blog called Chikatime (“chika” is Tagalog for “small talk”) sprang up. “Chikatime was a huge scandal in Manila. It rocked the entire country,” said the former editor. The blog combined Perez Hilton’s fondness for coke-y MS Paint doodles with TMZ’s gutter ruthlessness with 2005-era Gawker’s weakness for the unverified, and unverifiable, juicy reader tip. The writing style appeared to match Bryan’s, and many of the blog’s subjects were the establishment figures and socialites who had granted him entry into their world. “A lot of the people who control the Philippines media control society,” explained the former editor. “What made that gossip different was that it targeted the people that people wanted to target. Society was just about these people all the time—you pick up a magazine, and it was just these same people, year after year, or the daughters and sons of these people.”
Indeed, Bryanboy has departed from his early blogging style and has now become more professional (even his blog is now handled professionally). Love him or hate him, he’s definitely made his mark.

If I was to call one outfit that took the night during last night’s Grammy Awards, I would have to say that it was Rihanna in Giorgio Armani.
The dress was simply elegant in more ways than one and Rihanna carried it the whole way through. She said that she helped design the Scarface-inspired dress. I must say – - TOTAL WIN!!
Chuva’s Worst Dressed for the #Grammys: What the Nicki Minaj was she wearing last night?
I don’t know who Nicki Minaj was channeling last night but from the looks of it, she must have gotten paid big to wear the outfit she was wearing last night.
As you can see from the humongous logo in front, it’s the Versace logo. I don’t think that Gianni Versace (if he was alive today) would even consider his brand to be mocked this way. Apparently, Donatella thinks so.
I thought the dress (if that’s what you would call it) was a total fail.
Ms. Ecuador Olga Alava crowned Miss Earth 2011
Ecuador’s Olga Alava was proclaimed her country’s first Miss Earth winner, edging Imperial. Ecuador also had its first Miss International winner this year with Maria Fernanda Cornejo capturing the crown in China in November.
Brazil’s Driely Bennettone failed to duplicate her compatriots’ Miss Earth victories in 2004 and 2009 and settled for the Miss Earth-Air title. Heavy favorite Caroline Medina of Venezuela, a former Miss Hispanoamericana winner, was hailed Miss Earth-Fire.
Athena Imperial, another graduate of the University of the Philippines (UP), on Saturday night won the Miss Earth-Water title at the 2011 Miss Earth pageant held at UP Theater in Diliman, Quezon City.

I am podcaster now and you can prove that by looking at my Random Musings section on this blog. I’ve met many people using Twitter and one of the people whom I met there is Ham Viloria who, for the last few months have been co-hosting my podcasts.
He’s a great co-host because we both can interact with each other and know how to feed off of each others comments. One thing that interests me is that he sounds exactly like Bryanboy, the fashion blogger. And to top it off, he is in love with fashion as well.
He’s a registered nurse by training but a hairdresser by profession. He has actually done hair and make-up for a lot of photo shoots in Manila.
I want to help him expand his business because he’s been really great acting as my co-host and want to find ways on how he can do it. One thing I noticed is that he could start by having fashion business cards created. Not just for hairdressing but a fashion-type business card so he can be identified as someone who is connected or geared to fashion. Look at what happened to Bryanboy. A simple Filipino blogger who made it big because of his passion for fashion. Last I read from HuffPo was that he made over $100K last year. If can can get my friend Ham to earn at least 10% of that, I would be happy. I have to find a way. Maybe, I’ll give it to him as a gift? Maybe.

Michael Kors marrying longtime partner Lance LePere
The New York Post reports that Project Runway judge, Michael Kors is going to marry his longtime partner Lance LePere in New York.
After New York’s legalization of Gay Marriage, many couldn’t wait to apply for that marriage license and the news was welcomed across the nation. The article mentioned Michael Kors saying:
“Lance and I are very excited to finally be able to have the opportunity to marry in our home state after many years together,” Kors, 51, said in a statement. “We have no plans for a major party, but we will be getting married privately.”
Just as I’ve always said, my support for gay marriage is not personal to me since I don’t see myself getting married if ever. My support for gay marriage is equal to my support for human rights. We are all created equal and for those who choose to marry, kudos to them.

I have always loved Tobey Maquire. Ever since I saw the Indie film, Cider House Rules – I have loved him. Yes, even before he was Spiderman.
There is that sexiness about his nerdiness if you know what I mean. Something about how his voice tone changes when he speaks that drives me crazy. If you haven’t seen Cider House Rules – it’s a must-see. Go and rent it on DVD or streaming. You won’t be disappointed.
And guess what? He’s filming “Life of Pi” for release in 2012. I have heard so much about that book and I intend to read it this summer. Now, I can’t wait for the film to come out.
Now, he’s the new man for PRADA.

You may be one who considers yourself to be fashion-forward. You always have the latest in fashion. If so, you may have heard about the low-crotch pants that is so big in Europe, Asia and South America right now. Men and women are donning these MC Hammer-reminiscent pants. Except that these are skinny jeans.
I didn’t think it was one that I would look good in but when I tried a couple on while I was traveling in Rio de Janeiro, I fell in love with them. It’s really costly to shop for clothes in Brazil but I had to have them. So I bought two pairs of low-crotch jeans.

While watching the Royal Wedding of Prince William and HRH Princess Catherine, I almost choked when I saw Princess Beatrice’s hat. I guess, it’s okay to take chances on fashion and it was attention-grabbing. The only thing is, it wasn’t a positive one.
Twitter suddenly became filled with criticism about the hat. One said, “WTF is Princess Beatrice wearing?”, and another added, “I can’t move past Princess Beatrice’s hat. What was she thinking?”
With over a billion people watching and breaking web records, The Royal Wedding was a hit. Imagine a billion people seeing you in that hat. Ha!

UsMagazine.com reports that soon-to-be princess Kate Middleton’s see-through knitted mesh slip that she wore during a 2002 fashion show has sold for $125,000! Whoah!! She’s not a princess yet and still, she is already marketable!
I am thinking that after the wedding, they will be making a Kate Middleton doll. To this day, I am still not sure who the designer of her wedding dress will be. I heard that it’s tradition to keep it under wraps until the day of the wedding.
Designer of Kate Middleton’s Wedding Dress Revealed?
I am one of you people! I am waiting patiently for the revelation of the designer who is going to grab the opportunity to design and make the wedding dress for Kate Middleton, the princess-to-be-and-would-be-future-queen to Prince William.
So far, the name of Sara Burton – designer for Steve McQueen was revealed to have snagged the covetous role of designing her wedding dress. However, it was denied by the camp stating that the assumption was untrue.

John Galliano was fired from Dior and is now facing trial for racial remarks. Whoopi Goldberg defends Galiano on The View saying he should get a pass because he was drunk.
After being the creative designer for top brand Dior for 14 years, John Galliano was fired by Dior over his anti-semitic remarks that surfaced in a video where he was caught saying “I love Hitler.” where he appeared to be intoxicated.
He was obviously drunk at the time he uttered the words to a group of Italian women saying, “I love Hitler… People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers would all be fucking gassed.”

She started as an assistant in fashion shows and now, transgender Supermodel Lea T is the hottest ticket in fashion. Born a man, he has now started his transformation. He is preparing himself for the operation and admits that he is scared both physically and emotionally.

It’s very nice to know that there is a Filipina hat designer who has and is really doing well. I remember when she won the IYFE Green Goblet Award in 2010 in London.
She is regularly featured on Chuvaness’ blog and rightfully so. Mich Dulce is one who has made a name for herself.
So, in thinking of that – I just saw this spread at The Fashionisto featuring designer hats by Giuliano Bekor. It caught my attention because it featured semi-naked men wearing the couture female hats. What a brilliant idea, I thought.
With all the hunky male Brazilian models in Manila like Daniel Matsunaga or the likes of Neil Etheridge from the Askalz (hey, David Beckham transcended from football player to male model!), we could surely gather up a few male models with a perfect physique (we can even include Gerald Anderson and Aljur Abrenica for that matter) and showcase the couture hats that Mich Dulce creates.
