The Krista Ranillo and Manny Pacquiao Scandal is a Publicity Stunt?
I don’t think one could use such a scandal to promote an upcoming film. Better yet, if one does use this type of publicity – we hope that they all come out of it unscathed in the end. This is not your normal publicity stunt (which I doubt that it is), this affects a whole lot of people.
The question is: Does showbusiness care about anything else other than making a blockbuster film? To the industry, good or bad publicity – - is still publicity. The Manny Pacquiao – Krista Ranillo – Jinkee Pacquiao triangle could cost Manny a lot of money! There are already rumors flying that he gave P20 Million to Krista after his recent win. What’s the truth to that? Not sure.
With a reported $15M (P720,000,000) less taxes and expenses from his Dela Hoya win- – Manny could probably sit back for a while and not care about a movie hitting big at the box office. Or maybe he does. If you are a Manny Pacquiao fan, would you watch the movie with or without the Krista Ranillo Scandal?

Jake Cuenca will be reunited with Cristine Reyes in the newest TV adaptation of Precious Hearts Romances. “We’ll be doing a project very, very soon. But then again, we all know that we can’t get enough of Twilight (Fork, Washington the site for New Moon filming has become a destination for Twilight fans now.. and the restaurant where the first date between Bella and Edward happened have received 5,000 orders of mushroom ravioli since the movie *it’s the dish that Bella ordered).

Chuva’s at the Movies – Review: In My Life
Okay, I must tell you that ever since I watched John Lloyd Cruz in One More Chance – I fell in love with him instantly. He’s one of the actors who can make me cry and I don’t mean just tears flowing down my cheeks – - Hagulgol to the maximum level.
I became super excited when I heard about the making of a gay-themed movie called In My Life. Of course, having John Lloyd Cruz in the film was already a plus for me but having the Star for All Seasons, Ms. Vilma Santos is even a better treat.
The DVD has finally come out and I couldn’t wait to get a hold of it. When I finally watched the film last night (with red wine on hand for total immersion!! hahaha!) I was actually impressed. The movie was all that I expected and more.
Remember how I complain all the time when gay-themed movies are produced from the Philippines? It’s always about go-go boys, macho dancers, and prostitutes. That is not all we can show. When Pusong Mamon came out – I was equally impressed because it is a film that showed a different view of what gay life is all about.
I couldn’t believe the “shocker” in the film as well which took me by surprise. I couldn’t tell you because it will be a spoiler if I did. You just have to watch the film.
John Lloyd, Vilma and including Luis Manzano did a wonderful job in portraying their roles. I was mostly in tears during scenes between John Lloyd and Vilma Santos. I did sense a bit of uncomfortable acting between Luis and his mom, Vilma. But their scenes turned okay as well.
The funniest part was Vilma’s trip to Harlem. You’ll understand when you see the film. It’s not for me to tell you.
Overall, I would rate the film and give it a 4 out of 5 stars. Fabulous! And I have never scene a better shot of New York from a Philippine movie. The excellent cinematography must be commended as well. There is no wonder why the movie became such a hit.

This is one of the best trailers I’ve seen so far. I have seen “A Christmas Carol” so many times in so many different versions. But this is where Ebenezer Scrooge is taken to the 21st century by Disney.
Starring Jim Carrey, the trailer is super amazing and I’m sure the kids today would be able to relate. Of course, nothing will replace the original but this is more in line with today’s technology.
Charles Dickens’ timeless tale of an old miser who must face Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet-to-Come, as they help to bring kindness to his otherwise cold heart. The Ghosts remind him of the man he used to be, the hard truth of what the world is today, and what will happen if he does not strive to be a better man. Set around Christmas, the most joyous day of the year, Scrooge realizes the sharp contrast of his own personality.
The images are superb, the sound effects are amazing.

Patient X rated R-13 without cuts by MTRCB
According to actor-producer Richard Gutierrez, the film Patient X aims to give a modern twist to the aswang, a supernatural creature in Filipino folklore. During the grand press con of Patient X, he told the media, “We have a different take on it. This time, we tried to give it a modern and hindi namin binigyan ng typecast ang aswang. We made our own version.”
How different is Patient X from his previous horror film, Sigaw?
A movie about brothers who are also lovers. Controversial huh?
This will be a good movie for me to watch since I am trying to learn Portuguese – at the same time, the subject matter is so controversial that I am quite interested to see how they play the roles and how compelling it would be.
As you know, the movie is a Brazilian film entitled Do Começo Ao Fim. (From Beginning to End) It is a movie about brothers who are also lovers. Not only that the subject matter is quite taboo, it is also something that probably won’t go well in the U.S.

‘In My Life’ is a smashing success in the US
The US premiere of In My Life was a huge success, playing to sold-out crowds in Los Angeles, New Jersey, and San Francisco. Fans lined up at the Alex Theatre in Glendale (Southern California), Fox Theatre in Redwood City (Northern California), and George W. Newman Theatre (Rutherford, New Jersey) to watch the film and to welcome John Lloyd Cruz, Luis Manzano, and Vilma Santos who was making her first movie in years.

‘Where the Wild Things Are’ reigned at the box office this weekend with $32.5 million

After Pananormal Activity’s surprising success with limited theater release, it did well again this weekend gaining third place with a known $11,000 budget. After seeing it however, I didn’t become a fan. It’s like watching Blair Witch Project while on a wild boat ride through disturbing seas. I was sick to my stomach with motion sickness, I was even late for work the next day because of it.
While that kind of phenomenon didn’t dominate this weekend’s box-office. Warner Bros.’ “Where the Wild Things Are” came up number as 1 earning $32.5 M followed by Law Abiding Citizen with $21.3 M – the phenomenal movie still did well comparing the budget spent for each of the films. $11,000 dollars spent with another $20.2 million earned is not bad screening in only 760 theaters. There will be an expected increase to that revenue when it goes full blast next weekend with 1,800 theaters.
Singer-actor Nico Antonio accepts gay role in indie film Ang Laro ng Buhay ni Juan
Sa indie world, masasabing nakikilala na rin si Nico Antonio lalo pa nga’t markado naman ang ilan sa characters na nagawa na niya sa ilang indie movies na tinampukan niya. Sa telebisyon naman, nagsimula na ring makabuo ng sarili niyang following si Nico through their segment in ASAP Live, ang Voizboys, kasama sina Ronnie Liang, Guji Lorenzana, at Jay-R Siaboc. The group will soon launch their own album.
“So far, ako, bilang musician-artist, meron po kaming gagawing album sa Voizboys, hopefully by early next year, mailalabas na po namin yun. Iba’t iba pong tracks. So far, kinu-compile pa po namin at kapag nag-recording, mamimili na lang din po kami,” pagbabalita ni Nico.
Kinatay wins Best Director, Best Original Soundtrack in Spanish filmfest
Brillante Mendoza’s Kinatay once again earned for him a Best Director award in the 42nd Sitges International Film Festival held recently in Spain. The honor comes on the heels of his Best Director plum at the Cannes Film Festival in France.
The movie, which has the international title The Execution of P, also won the Best Original Soundtrack for Teresa Barrozo.
Kinatay is about a criminology student (Coco Martin) who becomes a witness to the brutal rape and murder of a prostitute (Maria Isabel Lopez).

Paranormal Activity breaks box-office record.
Although “Couple’s Retreat” dominated the box-office battle this weekend with $35.3 million – I am still more amazed about the success of “Parnormal Activity”. This seems to be the new “Blair Witch Project”. The movie, although screened at only 159 theaters grossed a whopping $7.1 million which means it that it earned $44,654 per theater. The movie made it to the number five spot which excited the studio and have now planned on its national release next weekend.

Thirteen Filipino films to be given tribute in Greece

The Philippines will be the country in focus in a Greek film festival this November. The 50th Thessaloniki International Film Festival will hold an Independence Days section in honor of Philippine cinema, which has gained acclaim and worldwide visibility in the last few years. It will be held from November 13-22, 2009.

Indie Film “I Love Dreamguyz” tackles the same issue – - Macho Dancers
I have said this over and over again and I guess it has fallen on deaf ears because we continue to produce independent films that revolves around the same story… Macho Dancers. Granted, it is a money-maker and yes, sex does sell but come on.
In this latest film by Joel Lamangan, a story evolves around a group of five men as entertainers in Japan star-billed by the frontal nudity king, Marco Morales.
Synopsis: Five young men land job contracts as entertainers in Japan and form a new hip-hop dance group called Dreamguyz. Guided by their gay manager DIDI (Jao Mapa), they spend the next few months before their trip bonding as friends who share a common dream of finding greener pastures in the Land of the Rising Sun.
MICHAEL (actor) worked as a dancer in Japan when he was still a minor, using a fictitious name and a forged passport. He makes sure his recruiter doesn’t find out he’s not a first-timer to Japan like the rest of the guys. BENJO (actor) seeks to escape a cruel stepfather and find his missing older brother, a musician turned illegal alien in Japan. ALVIN (actor) is Didi’s lover, who openly expresses his affections for his benefactor while hoping to make his own money in Japan.
The movie opens November 4 in Manila and select theaters nationwide.

Nang makapanayam si Ate Vi ng tatlong host ng The Buzz kahapon na sina Boy Abunda, Kris Aquino at Ruffa Gutierrez, sinabi ng actress-politician na kadarating pa lang nila sa San Francisco, USA. “Katatapos ng premiere night sa Los Angeles, kaya nga mixed emotions kami lahat dito. Very very successful sobra ang premiere night namin sa Los Angeles pero the night before, lahat kami mabababa ang emotions kasi nga nung mabalitaan namin ang nangyari sa Pilipinas,” ani Ate Vi. Dagdag pa niya, kahit ang ibang staff members ng pelikulang In My Life ay apektado kagaya na lamang ng Star Cinema managing director na si Malou N. Samantala, sa Oktubre 8 pa ang pagbabalik ni Ate Vi sa bansa subalit patuloy pa rin ang kanyang pagtatrabaho bilang gobernador ng Batangas dahil patuloy ang koordinasyon niya sa kanyang constituents. “Tuluy-tuloy naman ang coordination ko sa kanila at 24 hours kaming nagkakaroon ng reporting. Fame Movie 2009 – Opens tonight
I was very young (wink wink) when the first Fame movie came out in 1980. I loved it! Music, dance and all that jazz.
Well, tonight the remake of the 1980s film FAME will be out in theaters. I really don’t have plans tonight so I think I’ll be watching. I’ll give you a review once I see it. I hope it’s good enough that I won’t feel like I just took Ambien CR pills while watching..

I can’t wait to watch the movie, IN MY LIFE. The come-back film of Ate Vi has surely become a hit among fans and the trio between her, Luis Manzano and John Lloyd Cruz was such a perfect chemistry that I expected the movie to become a serious hit.
And it has. With a reported amount of 80 million pesos earned on its first week, the film is definitely a hit. But, word-of-mouth has its powers. It came to light that the “highly-anticipated kissing scene” between John Lloyd Cruz and Luis Manzano was taken out of the film for reasons we are still unclear about.

Hello Marco Morales fans! I’m sure that you are awaiting the latest film by your sexy and uber hunky Marco Morales. The film, PIPO (Ang Batang Pro) stars Starstruck’s Tyrone Perez as well. Although I think Marco is cute, Tyrone Perez is just cuter.
The only downside is – bakit another film about hustlers again? Is that the only gay-theme we can think of when making indie films? Dahil naging success ang Macho Dancer ni Lino Brocka hindi ibig sabihin eh lahat ng gay-themed film is about hustlers… that’s my opinion.
