Zac Efron is totally beefed up on “The Lucky One” – Release date April 20, 2012 (VIDEO)

Oh man!!!  This isn’t right.  Zac Efron is probably poised to be the next big thing as far as leading men in Hollywood goes.  He is amazing.  If you saw Charlie St. Cloud, you know that the kid is a fine actor.  And now, he’s acting as a grown up.  Whew!   It’s been a warm winter but he just made it warmer for me.  Just sayin’.

The Lucky One Trailer 2012 – Official movie trailer in HD – based on Nicholas Sparks’s best seller – starring Zac Efron & Taylor Schilling – a Marine travels to North Carolina after serving three tours in Iraq and searches for the unknown woman he believes was his good luck charm during the war.

“The Lucky One” movie hits theaters on April 20, 2012.

U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault (Zac Efron) returns from his third tour of duty in Iraq, with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive-a photograph he found of a woman he doesn’t even know. Learning her name is Beth (Taylor Schilling) and where she lives, he shows up at her door, and ends up taking a job at her family-run local kennel. The Lucky One official trailer 2012 is presented in full HD 1080p high resolution.

WATCH: Moving Gay Rights Movement Video is on top of Youtube Trends

Watch the video and be touched. We’ve come a long way but we still have ways to go…. this is a sneak peek to a full documentary being created by Ryan James Yezak called “Second Class Citizens“. I can’t wait!

MMFF 2011 Blockbusters – Enteng ng Ina Mo on the lead with P32.8 M

Join two past blockbuster films in one and what do you get?  Another blockbuster film!

Enteng ng Ina Mo took the lead among the MMFF 2011 entries in ticket sales.    Starring Vic Sotto and Ai-Ai de las Alas, the two blockbuster stars have joined forces to create a movie that was sure to capture the box office ratings this time around.  It’s a family-oriented film and therefore, it was a sure win.  The film took in PHP32.8 M

Following Enteng ng Ina Mo was Ang Panday 2, starring Bong Revilla and Marian Rivera earning a whopping PHP20 M.

Kris Aquino and Dingdong Dantes stars on the horror film, Segunda Mano which took the third place with PHP 18.25 M with comedy My Househusband starring Eugene Domingo taking a close fourth place with PHP 17.33 M.

Not bad for the Philippine movie industry.  It proves that Filipinos still patronize their own and have kept MMFF season at the top of the movie-earnings game year-after-year.

Sam Worthington in a new flick “Man on a Ledge” – Trailer VIDEO and PICS

Sam Worthington has a new flick playing a cop who was framed for criminal activity and felt there was no reason to live anymore.  He stands on a ledge to commit suicide.  Elizabeth Banks plays the negotiator who tries to talk him out of it.  The question, does he or does he not jump from the ledge.

Here’s the trailer:

The desire we all know we have inside of us. Sometimes we find a way, sometimes we don’t. ‘Cold Star’ (VIDEO)

A short film by German Director Kai Stänicke which implies that there’s one thing common in all of us. Some try to hide it and some exhibit it without shame. But in totality, we are all the same.

Watch the film and let us know what and how you felt at the end. It must strike a chord somewhere. A film about bullying, gender and sexuality, age and all that jazz.

“The Help” continues to reign at the box office for a straight second weekend in a row.

I couldn’t really complain much.  Although I didn’t guess it right again this weekend (Chuva’s choice for number one was “Don’t be Afraid of the Dark”), I was still pleased about this weekend’s winner.

The Help took in first place once again.  Wow!  Now, I really want to see this film.  According to Access Hollywood:

“The Help” has been the No. 1 film for two-straight weekends. The acclaimed adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s novel about black Southern maids sharing stories about white employers amid the civil-rights movement raised its domestic total to $96.6 million and should cross the $100 million mark Tuesday.

Zoe Saldana’s action tale “Colombiana,” released by Sony, opened in second-place with $10.3 million. Guy Pearce and Katie Holmes’ horror story “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark,” a FilmDistrict release, debuted in third with $8.7 million. Paul Rudd’s comedy “Our Idiot Brother,” distributed by the Weinstein Co., premiered at No. 5 with $6.6 million.

Yay!  I want to see Our Idiot Brother as well.  I guess I will have to wait until I come back from my vacation.  Yes folks, I’m going to the Greek Isles for two weeks.  See you all when I return!!

‘Help’ Didn’t Stay in the Kitchen with $20.5M this Weekend as No. 1 at the Box Office

Who wouldn’t want to see The Help, which was a novel that landed on the New York Times Best Seller, a story about Southern black maids back in the 60s who worked for affluent families.

It’s a pretty compelling story and I wasn’t surprised it climbed up to No. 1 this weekend beating even Chuva’s choice, “Fright Night” to win the box office war.

I think I may just go and see this movie tonight.  And maybe, just maybe – my date would want to see it with me.

Rise of The Planet of the Apes took number 2 while Spy Kids: All the Time in the World took the number 3 spot.

Box Office Blockbuster 1, Chuva 3. This weekend’s Blockbuster movies. August 12-14

Okay,  I was wrong for my prediction for this weekend’s number one at the box office.  I originally predicted Glee in Concert 3D to take the number one spot until I realized it was going to be a limited release.  So, I opted for 30 Minutes or Less to take the number one spot.  (How would you know my prediction for the week?  Just look at the top video on the right sidebar on this page.)

Well, I was still wrong because Rise of the Planet of the Apes reclaimed the number one spot this weekend.

Here are the TOP 3 for weekend of August 12-14.

82% Rise of the Planet of the Apes $27.5M
73% The Help $25.5M
57% Final Destination 5 $18.4M

New Trailer for “Fright Night” – Awesome!

If you were an 80s kid, this is one of the films you will remember. I can’t believe there’s already a remake. It simply makes me feel really old. Collin Farrell would have to be so exceptional in this film in order to top the original.

Original theatrical trailer to Tom Holland’s classic 80′s vampire romp starring Chris Sarandon, William Ragsdale, Amanda Bearse, Stephen Geoffreys, and the late, great Roddy McDowall.

Here’s the original:

Here are the remake trailers:

Another point for Chuva. Rise of the Planet of the Apes wins the weekend’s box office taking # 1 spot. August 5-7, 2011

I started keeping score in my weekend blockbuster predictions and this is the third weekend in a row that I predicted the number one spot at the box office.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes took in $54 million this weekend, winning the number one spot.  The Smurfs took second place with $21 Million and Cowboys & Aliens took the third spot with $15.7 million.

My next prediction???   GLEE in CONCERT 3D

I think I should get paid for this.  LOL!

Cinemalaya 2011 Awards is alive and well. Thank God! (Complete list of Winners) I am pleased.

I am a big fan of Indie films.  I enjoy watching new faces on film and story lines that are out of the ordinary.  It gives a fresh look at movies that do not conform to the “money-maker-themes”.

I remember when I lived in Los Angeles, I had no friends.  (It’s not easy to make friends in Los Angeles!)

My weekends were composed of going to West Hollywood, to the Virgin Atlantic Theater and I would watch Independent films all weekend long.  It was followed with a trip to the Filipino restaurant and ordering my favorite Filipino meals.

Cinemalaya is the Philippine showcase of Independent films.  It’s a 10-day festival where audiences are treated to the latest in film-making including animation and short films.  If I lived in the Philippines, I will take a week off to watch every single film in the festival.  It’s really a celebration of talent.

I was glad about the winners as well and it gave me a hint on what to wait for on DVD so I could sit back and watch these films.

Here are the films I would like to see in no particular order:

  • Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank
  • Ligo Na U, Lapit Na Me
  • Bisperas
  • Isda
  • Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa
  • Zombadings
  • Ombre

The 7th Cinemalaya Awards Night was hosted by Paolo Bediones and Angel Aquino.

Here is the complete list of winners:

New Breed (Full-Length) Category

Best Film – Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank

Best Director – Marlon Rivera (Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank)

Special Jury Prize: Niño

Captain America Rockets to the Top of the Box Office (July 22-24)

Another prediction for the weekend blockbuster that Chuva guessed right!  Captain America kicks Harry Potter’s last installment’s butt this weekend by taking the number one spot with $65.8 million in ticket sales.  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 went to number two position at $48 million dropping down 71.6%.  And of course, Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis didn’t do too bad with Friends with Benefits which took in $18.5 million.

I, for one saw Friends with Benefits as opposed to watching Captain America.  I liked it and I specially liked Mila Kunis’ performance.  She played the role to a perfect “T”!  And she is so beautiful!  It helped as well that I saw a lot of Justin’s very smooth butt.  Ha!

Anyway, that’s it for now.

Zombadings! A movie I would like to see – NOW NA! (VIDEO)

There were very few “gay characters” of comedic nature that captured my attention.    The time when Tonet Macho from Iskul Bukol has become a famous gay character in a funny role back in the late 80s, and then came Roderick Paulate who topped all comedians portraying as a homosexual starting with the the movie High School Circa ’65 and then a  TV show ( “Tepok Bunot”) with Bibeth Orteza.

Once he unleashed his comedic talents as a gay person, people clamored for more.   Roderick Paulate’s first foray in gay roles was in 1979 when he appeared in Maryo J. De Los Reyes’ High School Circa ’65. It earned him the Famas Best Supporting Actor nomination and more importantly it paved the way for more and bigger movie projects. He was described as filmdom’s “screaming faggot,” because of his unique, hilarious and funny style of carrying his role and delivering his lines.

‘Harry Potter’ Tops Box Office – Alohomora!!

We knew it and expected it.  Harry Potter‘s last installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2 broke workd records for its opening weekend bringing in $476 million dollars in ticket sales globally.

The Harry Potter kids will probably never have to work a day in their lives if they want to.

Transformers: The Dark of the Moon starring Shia Lebeouf still took second place ($23.5 m) while Jennifer Aniston’s Horrible Bosses ($17.5 m)stayed strong at third place .

Customers surprised about Netflix’s Price Hike. Any other alternative?

My Facebook wall was filled with statuses from Friends who received an email from Netflix announcing a price change to their offered subscription.

One friend had a subscription fee of $7.99 for unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs per month.  The email had announced that they will now be separating the offered subscriptions.  Either you get pure unlimited streaming OR pure unlimited DVDs for $7.99 USD per month.  If you want both, you will have to pay twice the amount, which in total is another $5.00 or so extra per month you’re going to pay.

But what I ask is, is there any alternative?  The convenience, the low price and timeliness offered by Netflix is unmatched if you ask me.  Blockbuster stores in and around my area have shutdown their brick-and-mortar stores while their online subscription IMO cannot match Netflix’s timeliness and fees.

So my friend says, “I’m never leaving Netflix even though they just screwed me.”  Oh dear.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon Ruled July 4th Weekend.

Shia LeBeouf is once again, laughing all the way to the bank as Transformers: Dark of the Moon ruled the July 4th weekend grossing $116.4 million. The film broke the record for Independence Day Weekend ticket sales with $97.5 million Friday to Sunday earnings.

Even without Megan Fox, Dark of the Moon still had control.

Did you know that Shia LeBeouf thinks Justin Bieber is awesome? Yes siree!! He thinks that the Bieber is like a Prince or Buddha “having so much presence”. Ha!

Watch the video:

Here’s the top ten movies over Independence Day weekend.

  1. Transformers: Dark of the Moon, $97.5 million ($116.4 million Friday-Monday)
  2. Cars 2, $26.2 million ($32.1 million Friday-Monday)

If I am going to invest, I will invest in children’s needs. Tom Hanks: Woody and Buzz Lightyear Are Coming Back for Toy Story 4

There will always be babies and children.  Investing in toy companies will never be a bad thing.  Investing in baby stuff is even better.

According to E! Online, Tom Hanks confirmed that Toy Story 4 is actually in the works.  When asked about the possibility of another sequel to the Toy Story series, he quipped:

“I think there will be, yeah. Yeah, yeah, think they’re working on it now. There you go.”

Reading further on E!, I learned that Toy Story 3 is the highest-grossing animated film of all time!  I did not know that!  Over $1 billion in ticket sales WORLDWIDE!

I wonder if that includes all the merchandise related to the movie.  Probably not.. so multiply that by three.  Whoah!

via E! Online.

Cars 2 – as expected, wins the weekend box-office dollars.

I should really count the times when I predict which movie will make it to the top on its first weekend run.  So far, I’ve been right 9 out of 10.

My predictor?  The right side bar.

Jennifer Aniston in a raunchy movie? Believe it! Red Band Trailer (VIDEO)

Yes, we’ve never seen her like this before.  Jennifer Aniston stars in Horrible Bosses.  She’s stepping out of the “Rachel” character as being the sweet little nice girl that she’s always been on any movie – except “The Good Girl” where she received some accolade for her acting.

Would you watch Jennifer Aniston in these types of movies?  The movie stars A-Listers like Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx, Collin Farrell, Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis.

It is expected to be one of the big summer comedies to hit the screen this summer.   What do y’all think?

Here’s the trailer:

Remake of Footloose Trailer Released – (VIDEO)

Dunno if you were alive back then when Footloose came out. Yup, Kevin Bacon was the hottest thing back then. The music, the dance sequence, the truck scene… all those.

Someone decided to remake the movie without A-list stars like Chace Crawford or Zac Efron (or at least, none of them want to do it). But they do have cute guys replacing the original cast. I probably will watch it just so I can compare. And I love the music… so we’ll see how it fares out to the original.

Watch the trailer below:

Green Lantern takes top spot over the weekend at the box office – June 17-19

Although it fell below studio expectations, Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds still took the top box office spot over the weekend.

Green Lantern took in $53.2 million over the weekend opening at 7,200 screens across 3,816 locations falling short of the expected $55 million in gross ticket sales.  It also topped the UK box office taking in £2.4m in gross ticket sales.

Super 8 Took the Number One Box Office Spot Over the Weekend of June 10-12

My hunch for the weekend box office hit was right again this time. (Trailer on the right side bar is Chuva’s weekly prediction on which movie will take number one spot at the box-office).

Steven Spielberg’s thriller, “Super 8″ took number one with $37 million putting last week’s number one, X-Men down to number two with $25 million. Hangover Part II took the number three spot with $18.5 million.

Super 8 got my attention last week and I planned on watching it over the weekend but Philly Pride got in the way of my plans.

I ended up celebrating Pride in Philadelphia, PA with my friends – - I will be posting photos soon!

X-Men: First Class ruled the Box Office this weekend of June 3 – 5, 2011

Raking in $56.4 million dollars on its first weekend release, X-Men: First Class ruled at the box office this weekend.  Last weekend’s box office hit, Hangover Part II followed 2nd with $31.4 million, and Kung Fu Panda 2 raked in $24.3 million.

Not bad for summer movies for a start.  One surprising hit this summer is “Bridesmaids”.  I still have to see it.  A lot of my sisters and friends are raving about it….

Rise of the Planet of the Apes Starring James Franco – (Video Trailer)

In a bizarre experiment that has gone totally wrong, Rise of the Planet of the Apes looks promising – at least from the video trailer standpoint.

James Franco, Andy Serkis and Freida Pinto stars in the movie – in theaters August 5th.

An origin story set in present day San Francisco, where man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

Hangover II was throbbing this weekend! $86M in ticket sales. Woohoo!

The first three days of release of Hangover Part II was a great success, claiming number one this Memorial Weekend holiday with $105M in ticket sales.

No one can deny that the first one was such a hit, it called for a sequel.  I didn’t know how they were going to make the story line work but apparently, they did it.

In The Hangover Part II, Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) travel to exotic Thailand for Stu’s wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don’t always go as planned. What happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas, but what happens in Bangkok can’t even be imagined.

This is like the modern “City Slickers” for me.  Don’t you think?
