UNCONSTITUTIONAL: Court rules on California’s PROP 8 – Ban on Gay Marriage (VIDEO)

“Proposition 8 serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California, and to officially reclassify their relationships and families as inferior to those of opposite-sex couples,” said Judge Stephen Reinhardt in the majority opinion. “The Constitution simply does not allow for ‘laws of this sort’.”

“Although the Constitution permits communities to enact most laws they believe to be desirable, it requires that there be at least a legitimate reason for the passage of a law that treats different classes of people differently. There was no such reason that Proposition 8 could have been enacted.”

Hope we don’t get into another war. Iran threatens to close Strait of Hormuz – US says, it will not be tolerated.

There are reports of threats by an Iranian admiral that due to the threats of sanction against Iran, they could easily close Strait of Hormuz (the channel in the Red Sea) where most oil tankers pass.

“Closing the Strait of Hormuz is very easy for Iranian naval forces,” Iran’s navy chief Habibollah Sayyari told state-run propaganda channel Press TV. “Iran has comprehensive control over the strategic waterway.” His comments followed similar words from Vice President Reza Rohimi yesterday, and an announcement a few weeks ago that the Iranian navy would be conducting military exercises to simulate shutting the Strait of Hormuz, through which 40 percent of world’s sea-borne oil passes.

What do you think would happen should Iran do this? It will cause oil prices to rise (hence the jump in the trading today). But the question is, can they do it? So far, the US 5th Naval fleet said that they won’t let it happen. And be certain that our European allies will stand behind the US in this one.

Is it more likely that they could? Yes. And could there be war if they did? I say yes. Let’s all hope that these are just words and that with proper reasoning, it will not happen. The Pentagon had already warned that “it will not be tolerated.”

I am totally apalled!! Homophobic Calendar by Christian Cartoonist on Sale at Amazon, Barnes & Noble

This is why I am ashamed many times for being a Christian.  It is because of these so-called Christians that give the word Christian a bad name.

A “Christian” cartoonist named Joe King has launched a homophobic calendar which from the cover alone, I am already disgusted and would not want to know what is inside.  Call it humor, call  it fun.  It’s not funny.

The calendar with a cover page that says, “I’m not Gay, I’m just a Sissy” is enough to make my blood boil.  According to a commenter on Towleroad, the month of February says, “We’ve all got AIDS.”  Furthermore, what irritates me is that the calendar is being sold at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.  Seriously?

We should all complain to Amazon and Barnes & Noble to take this type of publication out of their inventory.

Now get this: Former Rugby Player Claims Stroke Turned Him Gay – throws a wrench on Nature vs Nurture theory.

I was reading this story this morning and I was a bit intrigued by the claim of Chris Birch, 26 – a British rugby player who broke his neck and suffered a stroke back in 2005.  He claims that after the stroke, he woke up (having had no attraction for men in the past and / or relationship) and found himself to not be attracted to women anymore.  Hmmmm.   Not only that, he actually lost weight, trimmed his hair and started dating men!

Here’s an excerpt of what he had to say about his experience:

“I had to learn to walk, eat, even speak again and all my family were supporting me, hoping they would see the old Chris come back soon enough,” he told the Mirror.

“My old friends would come round and visit me but the conversation would dry up straightaway. I wasn’t interested in the rugby scores, going down the pub to watch football or anything else I used to do.

A 2-year old toddler hit by a van, left unaided by passersby gets worldwide attention. (VIDEO)

What could be the reason why people would ignore a child – victim of a hit-and-run – bleeding on the side of the road and left to die? I don’t have any answers but the video is so troubling, I didn’t even want to ruin my Monday when I saw this on Gawker yesterday.

The 2-year old girl was hit by a van, and without even completely stopping – proceeded to leave hitting the girl again with the van’s rear wheels. If you watch the video, a total of 17 passersby ignored and walked around the child. Is this what the world has come to?

People are so afraid to help other people now because they are afraid of being sued or blamed for the incident that they would leave a child to die in the middle of the street just so they could avoid being dragged into the situation.

People who’ve seen the video (I haven’t) were outraged. But what can we do? If you have the stomach for it, here’s the link to the video. I don’t want to see it. It may drive me insane.

Once the nearly two-decade-old ban ends, gay men and women serving in military uniform will be able to reveal their sexual identity without fear of dismissal or official rebuke, openly gay men and women will be able to enlist in the military, and gay couples may be allowed to wed at military chapels or live together on military bases in states that recognize same-sex marriages.

• Presidential candidate Governor Rick Perry signs the anti-gay marriage pledge.

Wherever you were between Virginia to New York City, you must have felt the #earthquake that shook the East Coast a little bit after lunch time today. I lived in California for two and a half years and just two days ago, I was telling friends that “I have never felt an earthquake in my life!”. God heard that statement and now I know. A 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit the east coast today with the epicenter bing in Mineral, Virginia. The quake was felt all the way through New York City. No major damage reported but an advisory was given to expect aftershocks. Celebrities tweeted their experience as it was happening. Snooki from Jersey Shore tweeted,

“2012 is near, I knew it. I hope everyone’s okay!!!“

while Adam Levine was a bit more comedic in saying,

“Ok. Even GOD is pissed off at Washington.”

• Rumors came out regarding the split of Prince of Bel Air Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith after being married for 13 years. The couple issued a statement denying the rumors saying, “Although we are reluctant to respond to these types of press reports, the rumors circulating about our relationship are completely false. We are still together, and our marriage is intact.”
• Glee’s Jane Lynch is promoting her memoir, “Happy Accidents” using a newly released video. The books will hit the shelves on September 13.

After S&P’s downgrade of the US credit rating from AAA to AA+, everyone and their mother tried to take a safe dive by taking their money off the stock market before it crashes to the deepest pits of hell.

It had every indicator that the market will go down today after Asian markets fell due to the credit rating downgrade.

But, as we’ve heard time and time again.  There’s no need to panic just yet.  It’s not an indicator that we are doomed.  We have gone down this road before (remember????)

So, relax and breathe.  It’s not the end of the world… yet.

OMG!!  Although the post didn’t say whether the reason for her cutting her husband’s pee pee was due to infidelity.  It could have been other things… but again…. aray ko!!!!

Remember Lorena Bobbit?  At least she threw it where it could be found and re-attached.  Later on, her husband made a couple of porn movies to showcase the re-attached peen.  Whew!

Osama Bin Laden Execution (Video) On Facebook – A Virus – Delete it!

I’ve seen many of my Facebook friends become victims of this malicious virus that was released on Facebook. It will show up on your wall saying that an Osama Bin Laden Execution Video was released by BBC as taken by US soldiers during the raid in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

If you see it on your wall – - do not – - REPEAT: DO NOT CLICK IT. It is a virus that will gather all your contacts and post the same message on their walls as well.

Many of my friends have already warned their friends but the messages have spread so fast because of people’s interest in seeing the execution of Osama Bin Laden. So far, no video is known to exist. Even death photos of Osama Bin Laden is closely guarded not to be released to the public.

A warning to all my readers – if you see this message on your Facebook wall – - simply delete it.

OMG is this for real? Chris Brown Photos Having Sex with a man leaked?

I guess this is just a way to distract us from the real photos we’ve been waiting for.  The photos of Osama Bin Laden that the White House is contemplating on releasing.

While I was on Twitter last night, someone mentioned that he hopes those photos of Chris Brown having gay sex is photoshopped.  According to the comments, the photo is fake because he doesn’t have any tattoos.  However, if the photo was taken in 2006 – that is possible.  There’s no surprise about photoshopping pictures these days to create a scandal but when I saw the pic, I was like – - hmmm.  Is it?

7.4 magnitude quake triggers tsunami warning in Japan

 

 

I was on my way to work today when I got the notice from my iPhone that a 7.4 magnitude earthquake has hit Japan and tsunami warnings have been issued.

Immediately, I went on to Twitter to tweet:

@chuva #prayforjapan.  Another 7.4 mag earthquake.  Tsunami warning issued.  Please spare them.  They’ve been through enough.

I offered a silent prayer while walking to work.  When I got to work, I saw that even though the earthquake is 7.4 in magnitude , no immediate reports of damage and so far has not affected the work being done at the damaged nuclear plants (power is still on) by a powerful earthquake on March 11th.

Please continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Japan as they face another crisis.

I know – everyone of us are probably glued to the television still watching footage of the now-upgraded 9.0 earthquake in Japan. With news of a nuclear reactor meltdown in the brink, we just can’t stop and feel bad for the people of Japan.

A new video footage has surfaced showing the exact moment of the tsunami hitting Japan and it’s too crazy to watch.

Please continue to pray for Japan and the almost 10,000 missing people. Let’s hope and pray that the number provided by news agencies won’t equal to the number of casualties.

Daylight Savings Time begins – Spring Forward – November 6th. What time is it?

Regardless of the time changing every year, we still get caught by surprise when the time adjusts from Summer to Fall and Winter to Spring.  Today, the hottest trends on Twitter?  What time is it?

I can honestly admit that I am one of them.  I would occasionally put a mental note on the date when the time is supposed to change but when it comes, I still get all worked up about it.  Losing an hour seems like a big deal.  One buddy of mine has a trick, he changes his clock in the afternoon of the day before the time is scheduled to change.  In that way, he gets to adjust early and sleep earlier than people like me who simply looks at the clock and think that it is an hour ahead until the time changes.

Well, it’s here now folks!

The official time change took place at 2 a.m. Sunday. Daylight saving time ends Nov. 6.

Google launches Google Person Finder for people of Japan(????): 2011 ????

Google Person Finder (????): 2011 ???? was launched by Google to assist the people of Japan looking for loved ones.  It’s another effort to assist our brothers and sisters in Japan who experienced a disaster yesterday with a devastating 8.9 magnitude earthquake and coupled with a damaging tsunami.

Let’s continue to pray for the people of Japan in this time of distress and tragedy.

 

8.9 Magnitude Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan kept me up all night. (VIDEOS) and LIVE STREAM

I was still up last night when I got the first notification from HuffPo that an 8.9 magnitude earthquake has hit Japan. Yes, it was around 1:45 a.m. and I couldn’t sleep because I was too worked up from working out late last night.

I logged on to my Twitter account (@chuva) and saw second-by-second tweets from BBC, and many others who are relaying the emergency online. Many people and celebrities whom I follow used the hashtag #prayforjapan because of the devastating effect of the earthquake and a possible tsunami that actually came true.

McDonald’s just got taken over by Subway as largest resto chain in the world!

Get this!  I love Subway and I love McDonald’s too.  But in ways of eating healthier, I would choose Subway over McDonald’s.

McDonald’s used to be the largest resto chain until last year when Subway had 33,749 restaurants as opposed to McDonald’s 32,737.

In terms of revenue however, McDonald’s is still king with a reported 24  billion dollar revenue last year as opposed to 15.2 billion for Subway.  But that is still a great feat!

How did Subway achieve its great success in the restaurant chain market?

Subway has achieved its rapid growth, in part, by opening outlets in non-traditional locations such as an automobile showroom in California, an appliance store in Brazil, a ferry terminal in Seattle, a riverboat in Germany, a zoo in Taiwan, a Goodwill store in South Carolina, a high school in Detroit and a church in Buffalo, New York.

Breaking News: White House will no longer defend federal marriage act in court

I believe that we are slowly inching towards Marriage Equality in this nation.  The most recent announcement was that the Obama Administration will no longer defend Federal Marriage Act in court.

Many lower courts have found the law to be unconstitutional and that it “discrimates against same-sex couples who are legally married but not recognized by the federal government.”

Attorney General Eric Holder sent in the recommendation and the president has agreed.

Marko Stout: New York City Artist Exhibit “The Cave”

If you don’t know me very well, you wouldn’t even think that I love art.  I enjoy painting and sculptures and do have quite a collection at home.  My collection ranges from pieces purchased overseas and paintings that I’ve bought at auctions online.    One piece that I own is a Salvador Dali Limited Edition Lithograph of “Don Quixote” which sells now for $7,000.

Therefore, I like going to museums and galleries.  I was privileged to have met artists in Venice and Milan when I was traveling there last year.  I almost bought a painting but due to the US economical downturn last year, I decided not to.

Now, there is a New York City artist whose artwork I have found to be fascinating.  His name is Marko Stout. An artist with a degree in Biology and if you can believe this, he also has doctorates in medicine and metaphysics! Whoah! He explains his artwork as something that is “active and living”. Mostly abstracts, I could actually liken his art to artist Peter Max. I love Peter Max. I know someone who owns one of his original piece and have admired it many times when I visit her home.

Marko Stout will have an exhibit called “The Cave”. He explains why he chose the name for his exhibit on his website. His exhibit promises a “unique and mystical experience” and I would like to take part in it. The Cave is an exhibit of deep thought and mysticism and if that’s your game, you may just want to check it out as well.

I may decide to go after my trip to Washington, D.C. where I will take part in the National Cherry Blossom Festival in April. I am only a couple of hours away from New York City…

The Huffington Post reports that Mount Bulusan in the Philippines had errupted at 9:15 this morning.

The first photo released was that from the Philippine Daily Inquirer (photo above).  The eruption, according to the article, was first announced by journalist Harold Geronimo 14 hours ago, as of this writing.  He tweeted, “Breaking News: Mt. Bulusan erupts“.

It was then confirmed by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology saying the cause was due to steam buildup.  Warnings have been issued for aircrafts to stay away from the zone and have warned people as well to be mindful of possible respiratory illnesses if they are exposed to the gases and ashes.

What kind of person does this? Mother charged with child abuse after posing for photo with two-year-old daughter gagged and bound with duct tape

The disturbing photo above was discovered when a 21- year old young mother reporting that she had become a victim of  identity theft.  She apparently presented the photo to police and said that the photo was leaked over the web without her consent.

The photo shows her and a toddler, bound and gagged in duct tape in a plastic chair.

Now, first let me ask you.  What photos do you keep on your cell phone camera?  Be mindful of what you  keep there.

Then, I would ask the young mother – “What in the hell was she doing, binding and gagging her child with a duct tape for?”

She was apparently charged (rightfully so) and taken to custody.

That is why your parents tell you to be responsible and not have children at a very young age!  It is because you may do stupid things like this one when you can’t handle taking care of your own baby.

CBS Reporter Serene Branson’s muddled words may have been due to stroke.

The CBS Reporter Serene Branson was reporting live from Los Angeles right after the Grammy Awards. Many people watched her clip and had more concerns than just simple reporting fail.

The warning signs of slurring and flubbed-lines during her reporting was going to be the next viral video if indeed it wasn’t because of a serious medical emergency that was suspected. According the the Telegraph, she was taken to the hospital right after for a check up.

Difficulty in speaking and fumbling words can be signs of a stroke. She may have suffered a stroke while reporting live.

Monster snowstorm still being projected for Chicago. It has already began in Texas and is predicted to paralyze Chicago, IL.  With record-breaking amounts of snow across the United States, most of the residents including Chuva wants out of this climate already. They are calling for blizzard-like conditions with snow accumulating between 2-3 inches per hour!!!

Chicago braces for a historic blizzard that could arrive as early as Tuesday, CNN Reports.

We’ve had enough already!!!  No More Snow!!

If only I could protest to stop the storm headed our way again this week, I would.  CNN.com is reporting a major winter storm to hit the Central US including Chicago and Milwaukee all the way to Indiana.

Chicago and Milwaukee are expected to be particularly affected as the week progresses. The weather service issued a storm warning for Tuesday and Wednesday for southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois and northwestern Indiana. Forecasters said snowfall totals could reach up to 2 meters in some areas.

“This storm could be one of the top 10 biggest snowstorms ever in the city,” said CNN meteorologist Sean Morris.

The Challenger Disaster – 25 Years Later – Where were you? Home Video Taken Surfaces 24 Years Later.

I remember the exact moment that the Challenger exploded. I was working at a 7-11 and didn’t know exactly that the Challenger had exploded during lift off. The somber faces of the people walking in the store can be felt so much that I had to ask one of the customers why. Then, when I was told that the Challenger had exploded, I couldn’t help but be somber as well.

It was a high-profile launch because of Christa McCauliffe – the first teacher who was to go into space. And when the news broke, the whole country was saddened. When I got home that night, CNN and all the news channels were playing the video over and over again showing the faces of the people who were watching the launch live and how they all reacted when it exploded. Children were there to watch the launch as well and all public schools were tuned into the television for school children to witness the event.

Sheezawhiz!!! When will this end? East Coast braces for more snow – CNN.com

Another snow storm is about to hit the East Coast.  Don’t get me wrong – I like snow and I like cold weather, but this is getting on my last nerve.   We know that spring is around the corner and it just seems like these storms are making us want spring to come even sooner.

We had a blizzard right after Christmas, then another storm hit in early January.  The weather has been freezing cold during the last week that walking my dog felt like a chore.  And now this.

People are tired of it and if you watch the video below, you can tell – we just want spring to arrive!
