TCCS – The Chuva Chienes Show TCCS Podcast 4 – Divorce in the Philippines. Agree or Disagree?

Should divorce be allowed in a Catholic country like the Philippines?

There are many reasons why couples file for divorce.  It could be because of financial hardship, infidelity, and the worst – domestic violence.  The Philippines is the only remaining country in the world who does not allow divorce.

House Bill 1799 was introduced by GABRIELA Women’s Party in July of 2010.  Here’s an except from the bill:

Even when couples start out well in their marriage, political, economic and social realities take their toll on their relationship. Some are not prepared to handle the intricacies of the married life. For a large number of women, the inequalities and violence in marriage negate its ideals as the embodiment of love, care and safety and erode the bases upon which a marriage is founded. The marital relations facilitate the commission of violence and perpetuate their oppression. Official figures in 2009 showed that nineteen women were victims of marital violence everyday. Among the different forms of violence and abuse against women committed in 2009, wife battery ranked highest at 6,783 or 72% according to the Philippine National Police (PNP). The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) likewise recorded marital violence as highest among different forms of violence against women at 1,933. Previous reports of the PNP about three of ten perpetrators of violence against women were husbands of the victims. Husbands accounted for 28 per cent of the violence against women crimes.

What is your position regarding this issue?  Are you for or against divorce?  Should the Philippines adopt such a bill just like every country in the modern world?

Listen to what Chuva Chienes has to say about the subject.   To review the full bill, please read House Bill 1799 in full.

We are booked for our cruise to Turkey and Greece! Yay!! Azamara Cruises

Well, you might all think that I am really spoiled and that I travel too much.  I am not.  It takes hard work and “conections” to be able to do the traveling that I do.

Last year, I went on a European Cruise for 11 days and I had a blast.  That was the first cruise I ever went on and it was the most magical experience.  The cost of that cruise was an unbelievable special rate of $500.00 USD.  Yes, to see eight cities in Europe for that amount is insanely cheap!

This time around, we are taking a cruise to Greece and Turkey on Azamara Quest.  It’s a luxury cruise ship and I am sooo excited!  Did you know that we just got upgraded from a interior state room to an ocean view state room?  How lucky can one get?

I am so excited!  We just booked our flights as well that just got confirmed. ALL ABOARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brown Coffee Co. Defends Its Homophobic Tweet hours afer passing of Gay Marriage in NYC

It was a big deal.  Probably not a big deal for heterosexuals because it will not affect them.  However, a company decided to tweet the message on the screenshot above – hours after the bill was passed.

Our podcast topic for this week started out funny. Our very first caller, Annabel Ramos called in with a question. It was a quick conversation on the phone and I was able to record it for all of you to hear.

The question was simple and I thought it would be an easy one to answer… until I reflected on it and thought about the advice I was going to give Annabel.

I was shocked to find that the question was more serious than I had thought…. and you will be surprised at how I came up with the answer…

Hate Crimes Law is very much needed in the Philippines. Let’s help stop hate crimes!

I guess I was naive to think that hate crimes law have been implemented in every nation.  In the United States, civil rights movements fought for racial equality.  Remember racial segregation?  Rights of African-Americans in the south suffered civil rights violations up to the 1960s.

Previous hate crimes laws only covered discrimination based on race, color, religion or national origin.

Hate Crimes law aims to punish people who violate it. Persons violating the 1969 Federal Hate Crimes Law face a fine or imprisonment of up to one year, or both. If bodily injury results or if such acts of intimidation involve the use of firearms, explosives or fire, individuals can receive prison terms of up to 10 years, while crimes involving kidnapping, sexual assault, or murder can be punishable by life in prison or the death penalty

If you’re a cat “caught barking” what would you do? Start faking you were meowing the whole time. (VIDEO)

I hate cats! Ha!

Why? Because my neighbor’s cat has nothing better to do than to tease my dog Jake. He seems to be prancing around outside, trying to annoy my dog as if he’s saying, “I’m outside and you’re not! He-he-he!”

And you know why I hate cats? Because they are tricky like that. Now, there’s proof!

Watch this cat, who seems to be enjoying the pretend game of “BARKING” until he was caught on cam. And just look at his face when he realized that he just got caught. Sneaky bastard!

Pulitzer Prize-Winning Gay Filipino Reporter, Comes Out as Undocumented Immigrant”

The piece written by award-winning journalist, Jose Antonio Vargas for the New York Times was excellently and fluidly written that one has to feel what an undocumented immigrant feels like while living in the shadows here in the U.S.

So, to my fellow Filipinos who may read this piece, life in America is not all what it seems to be.  We dream of coming here and reaching for the American dream.  Without the proper documents, in these days of high-security and terrorism, it will be a hard life for you especially if you are undocumented.

Take a hard look before jumping into the unknown.  America is a great country and it has everything to offer you – but you would want to be here legally.   Otherwise, you will go through life as if you’re living a lie that you cannot disclose.  It is probably worse than hiding in the closet if you’re gay.

Here’s an excerpt from the piece he wrote for NY Times:

My mother wanted to give me a better life, so she sent me thousands of miles away to live with her parents in America — my grandfather (Lolo in Tagalog) and grandmother (Lola). After I arrived in Mountain View, Calif., in the San Francisco Bay Area, I entered sixth grade and quickly grew to love my new home, family and culture. I discovered a passion for language, though it was hard to learn the difference between formal English and American slang. One of my early memories is of a freckled kid in middle school asking me, “What’s up?” I replied, “The sky,” and he and a couple of other kids laughed. I won the eighth-grade spelling bee by memorizing words I couldn’t properly pronounce. (The winning word was “indefatigable.”)

One day when I was 16, I rode my bike to the nearby D.M.V. office to get my driver’s permit. Some of my friends already had their licenses, so I figured it was time. But when I handed the clerk my green card as proof of U.S. residency, she flipped it around, examining it. “This is fake,” she whispered. “Don’t come back here again.”

TCCS – The Chuva Chienes Show is Back!!!! TCCS Podcast 1 – June 2011

Hello readers! This has been long overdue. It has been a little over 2 years since I did my last podcast. I remember that it was Father’s Day of 2009 when I recorded that podcast and somehow, things got busy and I wasn’t able to get back to it.

Now, even with the mixed up schedules that I have with school, work and other activities, I found a way to get back to something that I loved doing. Podcasting.

I welcome you back and I hope you will welcome my podcasts again. It’s my way of interacting with my readers (and future listeners) and I hope you will give me a chance to share my thoughts with you. If you would like to be a part of my podcast, you can share your concerns, your loves, your successes or anything that you would like to share with the world.

Again, welcome and please do leave comments below to let me know that you were here. Kulitan, tawanan, and even serious conversations are more than welcome…

So True! Bullies must really feel this way about homosexuality. LOL!

Ever wonder what really goes on in the minds of bullies? Most specially those who bully homosexual teens? I think this video captures it…. it’s all the hidden desires they don’t want to exhibit that makes them bullies…

LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, AND TRANSGENDER PRIDE MONTH, 2011 -Presidential Proclamation

THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 31, 2011

LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, AND TRANSGENDER PRIDE MONTH, 2011

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

The story of America’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community is the story of our fathers and sons, our mothers and daughters, and our friends and neighbors who continue the task of making our country a more perfect Union. It is a story about the struggle to realize the great American promise that all people can live with dignity and fairness under the law.  Each June, we commemorate the courageous individuals who have fought to achieve this promise for LGBT Americans, and we rededicate ourselves to the pursuit of equal rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Since taking office, my Administration has made significant progress towards achieving equality for LGBT Americans.  Last December, I was proud to sign the repeal of the discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.  With this repeal, gay and lesbian Americans will be able to serve openly in our Armed Forces for the first time in our Nation’s history.  Our national security will be strengthened and the heroic contributions these Americans make to our military, and have made throughout our history, will be fully recognized.

After a couple of days in Sao Paulo, we are headed for Rio de Janeiro

Hello folks!! Sorry for the lack of posts. I am currently in Brazil right now, on vacation. I am still here in Sao Paulo and although I like Sao Paulo, there’s really very limited sites to see. I went to Cathedral de Se and I will post photos soon. My friends went to Ibirapuera Park, which is within walking distance from our hotel – and they said it was nice.

Anyway, we are already headed to Rio de Janeiro tomorrow. I just wanted to write about my experience with a local friend here. I was invited to a party last night and my friends were supposed to go with me but I ended up going by myself. The trip was about an hour away from where we were staying and I was going with a friend whom I recently met. I was kind of afraid to venture out but I just trusted my instincts and went with it.

All my bags are packed, I am ready to go!! — Brasil! #RioDeJaneiro #Sao Paulo

Paris Hilton arriving in Sao Paulo, Brasil for Fashion Week last January.

Ashton Kutcher arrives with Demi Moore at Guarulhos International Airport for Fashion Week.

This is going to be my third time to visit one of the most exciting places in the world  – BRAZIL.

I just can’t get enough of the country.  No wonder, celebrities are flocking the country like the world is going to end.  It’s just amazing to meet many wonderful and beautiful people in this friendly country.

Did you guys know that I received some gifts from the Brazil’s Department of Tourism?  Yup. That was very nice of them~ !  I will be wearing the t-shirt when I get to Sao Paulo and when we go for our tour of Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf. The country is going strong financially and specifically, the city of Florianopolis has flourished amidst the financial crisis and now the favorite destination of the world’s rich and famous.

I will be taking lots of pictures so keep an eye out for my Brazilian visit posts.

My Brazilian friends – - – see you there!!!

Traditional baby-bathing looks rough. Ouch!

I’m not expecting Johnson & Johnson to be rushing over the phone to call the person who uploaded this video of traditional bathing of a baby (not sure exactly where) and say, “We want you to be the promoter of our baby products!” Ha!

If you watch the video, you would probably think she’s trying to kill the baby by her rough handling. But obviously, she is very experienced in bathing babies and I guess this is how they do it in their part of the world.

I just don’t think it’s going to be my way of showing love to an infant while bathing him. She looks like she was treating the baby like an inanimate object that needs washing. Whatever happened to the gentle touch?

Watch the Video after the jump…

The world to end on May 21, 2011. Well, sort of.

They claim that the rapture (where good people disappear and are taken up to heaven) will occur on May 21, 2011 and then – the end of the world happens a few days after that.

OMG, awesomely bad: School portraits [!! omg blog !!]

We all have one of these.  Probably buried somewhere in old attic boxes  (in cases of kids born in the 90s – in some old computer hard drive) are photos of ourselves we would rather burn.

I remember my elementary graduation photo and I swear, I had tried to burn that photo many times but somehow it’s like the gremlins. It keeps on reproducing itself!

Now I realize that these are the things that we should keep.  Because remember, we grow up when we laugh hysterically looking at the person we were in the past.

Mark Zuckerberg’s New Home. I like it!

Alright, he is indeed a multi-millionaire (or billionaire – however much he is worth now).  Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s founder and CEO has a new home.  He no longer lives in the old home that he was staying at even after becoming the youngest billionaire.  He bought a new home.

Let me guess.  You are probably expecting a mansion in an island that he bought, with 50 gazillion rooms and technologically-advanced right?  Guess again.

It’s the coziest home I’ve seen and if he asks me to move in – - I’m there!  I LOVE IT!   And if I could share the bathroom with him, I will be more than happy to oblige.

To see the complete set of photos.  Visit Gawker.com

Didn’t you just love Princess Beatrice’s hat worn at the Royal Wedding?

Apparently, many loved it so much that they photoshopped the hat design to anything and everything including the photo above which was supposedly the photo taken while the President’s security team was watching the raid of Osama Bin Laden’s mansion in Pakistan.

That was hilarious!!

Google Chrome Ad Features Dan Savage with “It Gets Better” Video. Awesomeness!

Just because your local news or major news network have stopped talking about bullying doesn’t mean that it has stopped. Many kids are still being bullied in school and we need not forget that they need us. They need to know that life gets better. Life will not remain the same and if you are one of the kids being bullied out there, don’t ever lose hope.

That’s why I was so glad to see Google’s ad for Google Chrome on Glee which feature Dan Savage talking about It Gets Better Project. We need to keep kids reminded of the fact that there is hope. Stick it out (not literally!! LOL!), and you will live long enough to find out that there’s happiness out there.

Don’t be bummed about the Royal Wedding! Heck, you can still marry Harry! :)

I know Chuvanians!  I understand your grief.  You thought you were going to be that princess.  You dreamed of that fairy tale wedding.  And now, that dream has to come to an end this Friday.  Poor princesses-to-be….

But wait!!  There’s one more chance.  All you gotta do is work your magic to get in between Prince Harry and Chelsy Davy and, Voila!  You got yourself a prince.

Just remember – - there is still one prince left!

Can’t wait for the Royal Wedding!!  Woohoo!

The Royal Wedding – Are you ready for it? I can’t wait!

Prince Louis and Princess Tessy of Luxembourg c. 2006

Okay, who doesn’t believe in Fairy Tales?  Who doesn’t love the story of Prince marries Princess and lived happily ever after?  We all know that it’s a fallacy but we still go gaga over Royal Weddings.  It’s the dream none of us can achieve and so we act like voyeurs-gone-wild just to witness the prince getting the princess.

On Friday, April 29th – Prince William and Catherine “Kate” Middleton will be married at the Westminster Abbey in London.  The guest list has been published and everyone and their mother who’s a royal family watcher has either taken off that day or have already set their alarm to watch the event happen.

For those of you who are working, set your DVRs (or VCRs if you still have one!) to record the wedding of the century.  I have taken the day off so I can pop my pillow up and watch the wedding at 4:00 a.m. E.D.T.

As long as I get to keep the most elgible royal, Prince Harry for myself - I’ll be fine.

Disturbing video of a transgender woman beaten at a McDonald’s in Baltimore.

I saw this video yesterday when my friend showed it to me on his iPhone. He was tagged with the video on Facebook and I was in total shock as I watched the assault (not knowing then that the woman being beaten by two other female patrons at McDonald’s in Baltimore is a transgender woman).

I watched the video until the woman started to go into seizure after she was beaten and kicked. The facebook wall was filled with comments of racism and homophobic entries.

Weird Youtube Videos – What’s your norm?

Every once in a while, you see a video and you can’t believe if it’s real or not. With all the viral videos out there coming out every week, it’s hard to even keep up.

Here are a couple of videos that surely, would make you wonder – what if? And the second video is a representation of what’s normal outside of these United States. And people, don’t complain because Route 295 takes three years to expand. Don’t complain about the traffic on 95 when it’s raining.

Take a look.

Here’s a freaky one. Imagine that you wake up and live each day like this (just like going to your job, and everything is normal). Thank your lucky stars now…

Plutonic or Platonic Love? Ha! Sometimes I get confused. Or they do.

I love you, dude!

Hey, I hear that all the time. One guy whom I met recently at a straight club sent me a text message saying that he really enjoyed hanging out with me (even though he knows I’m gay) and said that, “Oh, nice to have met you. But this is strictly plutonic.”

What? Plutonic? I thought it was platonic?

Anti homophobic bullying campaign in Ireland gave me goosebumps. (VIDEO)

I would have never found this video if not for Towleroad, a blog that I read almost daily (and at times get my references to blog about).  I watched the video below about what was described as a Powerful Irish Anti-Bullying Campaign.  It’s a video that touched me to the core because I was once “that” teenager.

I remember the shame and the fear of being found out by my peers that I am gay.  I hid almost every ounce of gayness in me just so that I could fit in.  But it’s something that you can never hide.  It will manifest itself whether you like it or not, whether it’s intentional or chance. And when it does happen, you can’t bear the shame or the teasing. But this video is so powerful, I wished many of my friends did it for me when I was younger.

Wash your hands people!! Super bug found in California Health Care Facilities – and spreading.

A super bug known as carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) has been reported to be spreading in health care facilities (hospitals and nursing homes) in California. The super bug is resistant to popular antibiotics such as penicillin and cipro. CRKP is an enterobacterium, a relative of E coli, and is resistant to most antibiotics other than colistin – a drug that can cause severe kidney damage.

From watching ABC News last night, they said that the virus is easily spread through the human touch. Although traces of the bug may be found in things such as pens and medical record books, these are not the way it is easily transmitted. It is transmitted through the shaking of hands or touching another. There were 350 cases reported for the first seven months of last year.

53 per cent of these infections came from acute care hospitals, 41 per cent from long-term acute care hospitals and 6 per cent from nursing homes.

It is highly suggested that we wash our hands regularly and use sanitation gels.
