Everyone was looking forward to the Star Magic Ball 2010. Thousands of people came to my site looking for pictures of the event. My apologies if I was a bit late in posting the photos because Chuva Chienes took a weekend holiday for Labor Day Weekend (photos to come soon!).
But, now I’m here and I’ve viewed the photos of the fabulous gowns that the attendees wore during the Ball. I have my pick already but I would like to ask my readers to vote on who wore the best gown for the event. I don’t know each and every actress so I am going to number them instead. The poll is at the end of the post.

Kapamilya stars gear up for the Star Magic Ball 2010
For three years now, the whole showbiz industry looks forward to the annual Star Magic Ball. It is the one big event that brings together the brightest stars of ABS-CBN’s talent management—and a few selected guest artists—in their most elegant dresses and suits for a night of glitz and glamor.
Artists look forward to this major event as it is a night where they get to reward themselves with an evening of pure fun with their closest friends in the industry. Pokwang is attending this year with her daughter Mae Subong. On Pokwang’s Twitter account, she expressed her daughter’s excitement for the event, “Eto na!!! Excited ang anak ko sa Star Magic Ball!! Hahahahahaaa buti pa siya nakapag-sukat na ng gown ako wala pa!”
Excited for our trip this coming Labor Day – Rehoboth Beach, DE
The Butse Gang used to do this annually – A Trip to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Somehow, budgets were tight and some people preferred to forego of our yearly trip. The last time I went with the gang was in 2008 (where Diwatang Byaning booked a hotel that could have been our demise – mas maigi pa yatang nagbook kami sa Afghanistan – hahaha!! ) and this year, I simply want to get away and Rehoboth Beach seems like the best place to go.
I didn’t go last year because as you all know, there were a lot of cost-cutting happening in my household and workplace. We had to take a paycut and we didn’t get a raise. Times were tough. This year is a bit better and I did get a small raise so I am willing to splurge a little bit.
Why should Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Venus Raj appear on Oprah?
She faced many challenges to get to where she is. She showed the world what “resilience” meant. Her determination gained her a lot of fans all over the globe. Her name: Maria Venus Raj, Bb. Pilipinas-Universe (Ms. Philippines-Universe).
Why is it that after several days from the Miss Universe Pageant’s conclusion does she still grace the television screens and newspapers all over? The Washington Post had a write-up about her, ABC News with Diane Sawyer touched on the question that was asked of her during the pageant. Twitter exploded with the trend word, “major, major” for several days. Huffington Post even chimed in and ran a poll to see if her answer cost her the crown. Facebook was filled with comments and support even though she placed fourth runner-up. Top 5 was a crowning glory for Ms. Venus Raj and her country, The Philippines.
What’s your biggest mistake is not an easy question… Venus Raj was not alone.
Filipinos are still reeling from the experience of having the chance to see their beautiful Miss Philippines-Universe contestant who made it to the TOP 5 during the Miss Universe contest in Las Vegas. We are all very proud of the accomplishment that Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Venus Raj achieved during the pageant.
It has been more than 10 years since we made it when Miss Mirriam Quiambao took 1st Runner-Up in 1999. All eyes were on Venus. Until the question and answer portion. According to my friend who was present at the event in Las Vegas, you could hear people with a gasp of surprise at Venus’ response to the question that was posed by actor Billy Baldwin.
Fans can’t get enough of James Reid and Tricia Santos
I am not up-to-date with the love team-up of James Reid and Tricia Santos but I must say that there is a “very strong following” of these two teen stars from Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash Edition.
I put up a poll asking fans to vote on who they would like to see in a love team – - whether it was James Reid-Tricia Santos or James Reid-Devon Seron. Not surprisingly, James Reid-Tricia Santos or JACIA or TRIMES is winning by 24% totalling 62% with 401 votes ahead of the James Reid-Devon Seron or JAEVON love team where the pair is trailing behind with 38% or 250 votes.
I’m thinking that if I was a producer at ABS-CBN, I would immediately start a movie campaign for JACIA. The fans are really loyal and they have all sorts of websites and Facebook fan pages for their love team.

The heat is on: Willie Revillame asks Court to confirm cancellation of his contract with ABS-CBN
Willie Revillame has shown no time of slowing down with reference to his request the release of his contract with ABS-CBN. I’m thinking that this is going to be a long drawn-out process and if ever, Willie will probabaly stand to lose millions more to his lawyers fighting the fight with ABS-CBN.
Willie Revillame reportedly filed an P11.5 million for “moral damages” or “danyos-perwisyo” against ABS-CBN. Willie strongly re-affirms that ABS-CBN violated their contract when they pulled the noontime show Wowowee and offered him a “pre-recorded” show when he was promised that Wowowee will return on the air by July 31st.

Didn’t I tell you folks? This saga is not yet over. There are already statements being made and when it comes to public understanding, there will be no clear answer until this matter goes to court. There seems to be a strong indication that Willie Revillame‘s statements are being refuted by the ABS-CBN camp most specially Ms. Linggit Tan.

My friends are flying to Las Vegas this Sunday, August 22nd to witness the crowning of Miss Universe 2010. It would be more than special for them (one of our friends attending is terminally ill) if Miss Venus Raj takes home the crown.

Hello PBB Teen Clash James Reid Fans! Who would you want James to team up with?
Thank you so much for Angela in sending me that “kissing” tip about PBB Teen Clash James Reid and Tricia Santos. I didn’t know how many followers they had until I posted that tip. Their fans flocked the blog and apparently were “super-kilig-to-the-bones” chorva!
So if James Reid and Tricia Santos are really an item, do you think we can get them to visit Chuva Chienes dot com? They seem to have the most followers and most faithful fans. Or is it James Reid and Devon Seron fans that are faithful? I’m really out of the loop so I want to know.
Was Devon and James only forced to form a love team because they were on the TOP 6? Or Does James really like Devon better than Tricia.

Miss Universe-Philippines Venus Raj in National Costume

One of the traditions of the Miss Universe pageant is to have the contestants represent their native land by wearing a version of their National Costume. Designers are given free-reign over the design and how they could best represent the contestant’s country.
I think that this year’s representation for the Philippines is good in a way that the traditional baro’t saya was given a bit of a modern flair with an obvious Spanish influence.
Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Maria Venus Raj was well-supported by fans and Filipinos alike during the Miss Universe 2010 National Costume Presentation Show at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on Monday, August 16th.

Is there something going on between PBB’s James Reid and Tricia Santos?
Here’s a tip from a regular reader here at Chuva Chienes dot com. (Thanks Angela for the chika!! – Keep it coming!)
James Reid and Tricia Santos were spotted at the celebrity premiere of Step Up 3D.
How true is it that the two were very sweet and during one kissing scene in the movie, the PBB big winner nudged Tricia’s foot. The two then made meaningful stares at each other. It can be recalled that James kissed Tricia while inside the PBB house when the teen housemates plated Truth or Dare. James even said “I don’t think we need this” referring to the tissue supposedly to be placed in between their lips.
Now that they are outside the PBB house, is romance finally in the air? Scoop was read in Facebook c/o Chelsea Laserna who was at the premiere night. There’s a video of them going inside the cinema together and some photos.

Willie Revillame: The Press Conference
This was the presscon that ABS-CBN issued a statement on. Willie Revillame’s contract cannot be rescinded as ABS-CBN claims that they are the aggrieved party. He insisted that an offer made to him by Ms. Tan to replace the show Wowowee with a one-hour-a-week pre-taped (and not live) show, he declined. He said as far as he knew, his contract was for a daily show until September 2011.
I’m wondering where this will amount to in the end. ABS-CBN is not releasing Willie from the contract and Willie insists that he has ended his relationship with ABS-CBN. This could be a long, drawn out process… read on.

Ito ang buod ng mensahe ng controversial TV host na si Willie Revillame sa presscon na ipinatawag niya kaninang tanghali, August 9, sa Annabel’s restaurant sa Tomas Morato, Quezon City.
Punung-puno ang main hall ng venue ng press, TV crew, mga abugado, at supporters ni Willie. Bukod sa legal counsels ni Willie na sina Atty. Leonard de Vera at Atty. Is Willie Revillame’s Wall of Success Tumbling Down? ABS-CBN issues an official statement. Aray Ko!
We all know that something was up with Wowowee after the May 4th episode aired where Willie Revillame threatened ABS-CBN that he would quit unless the management fired Jobert Socaldito. However, ABS-CBN was mum about the issue as they tried to resolve the incident with Willie Revillame behind closed doors. I guess since Willie came out on a press conference stating that ABS-CBN humiliated him (Halleeerrrrr!! Seriously?), ABS-CBN was forced to issue a statement. The statement was brief, to-the-point, and extremely firm.
Here is the statement released by ABS-CBN Corporate Communications Head Bong Osorio on Willie Revillame’s press conference regarding his resolve to be released from his contract to the Kapamilya Network:
We take note of Willie Revillame’s pronouncements in his press conference today.
Willie is bound to ABS-CBN by a contract until September 2011. He violated the behavioral provisions of his contract when he threatened the ABS-CBN management during the May 4, 2010 episode of Wowowee, with a resignation if management does not fire another artist of the network. His behavior was generally seen as a display of disrespect and arrogance, completely unacceptable to the Filipino public.
As the one who violated his contract, Willie has no right to have it unilaterally invalidated. Contracts are binding agreements that must be respected by the contracting parties involved. The one who violates the contract cannot be allowed to dictate whether it should continue or end. Otherwise, contracts will have no value and may be terminated based on whim.
ABS-CBN is the aggrieved party, and as such, is the only one that can decide to end the agreement.
Despite all that had happened, ABS-CBN was willing to continue with the contract. Willie however, refused to take responsibility for his actions.
ABS-CBN wishes to reiterate that it will hold Willie to his obligations under the contract which expires September 2011.

Wow. The past week had nothing but controversies. Of course, your dear and lovely Chuva wasn’t able to blog about any of it since she was so busy tending to her new love affair. Charing!
What were the headlines last week? Hmmmm.
Inception was a big hit and it remains number 1 even after three weeks. Leonardo Dicaprio is probably dreaming his way to the bank as I write this. I saw it as well and there’s a very good reason why it is number one. Go see it!
Cogie Domingo feels “weird” about his love scenes with fellow actor Sid Lucero
Mistulang bomba o malaking pasabog ang pagbabalik-pelikula ni Cogie Domingo makalipas ang ilang taong pagkawala nito sa local movie scene. Ang aktor ay kinikilalang isa sa mga pinakamahusay sa mga young artists sa industriya. Umani siya ng nominations para sa pelikula ni Joel Lamangan na Death Row (2000).
Ngunit huli siyang nakita noon pang 2006 Metro Manila Film Festival, sa pelikulang Mourning Girls, na idinirek ni Gil Portes. Ang mga huling nilabasang projects naman nito sa telebisyon ay mga produksyon ng GMA-7 na Love to Love at Bakekang, noon ding 2006.
Apat na taon ding nawala sa sirkulasyon si Cogie.
Kamakailan ay nagsilbing TV comeback niya ang isang guesting sa drama anthology ng ABS-CBN na Maalaala Mo Kaya. At sa pelikula naman ay ang kontrobersyal na indie film, Muli.
Uma Khouny admits kissing a guy—and he likes it!
“I have kissed a guy.”

Ito ang naging rebelasyon ng dating Pinoy Big Brother housemate na si Uma Khouny sa panayam sa kanya ng Paparazzi na ipinalabas noong Linggo, August 1.
Matagal nang kinukuwestiyon ang pagkalalaki ni Uma at sa past interviews niya ay sinasabi niyang walang katotohanan ang bali-balita na bakla siya. Kaya naman nang sumalang siya sa “Presscon Express” ng Paparazzi ay inusisa siya tungkol dito.
Hindi kasi masagot-sagot ni Uma noong una kung ano ang gender preference niya. Kaya naman nang bigla niyang inamin na nakahalik na siya ng kapwa lalake ay nagulantang ang hosts ng showbiz talk show ng TV5 na sina Cristy Fermin, Dolly Anne Carvajal, at Mo Twister.
Pagkatapos nito ay sunud-sunod na ang tanong sa kanya kaya hindi na naipaliwanag ni Uma kung bakit siya nakipaghalikan sa kapwa niya lalake. Pero sinabi ng Filipino-Israeli TYV personality na dito sa Pilipinas nangyari yun at hindi artista ang nakahalikan niya.
“That doesn’t mean that I’m gay!” bulalas ni Uma. “Nakipaghalikan ako sa lalake, gumimik ako sa gay bar. Because for me, bakla man o tomboy, we’re all the same, di ba? Dito lang sa Pilipinas is the weirdest thing ever na bakit hindi tanggap yung bakla? For me, we’re all the same.”
Ano ang mas gusto niya—lalake o babae?
“I can do both!” mabilis na sagot ni Uma, na nagpagulat at nagpasigaw sa hosts at sa audience sa loob ng studio.
“No, no, no…” pilit na gusto sanang magpaliwanag pa ni Uma, pero hindi na niya nagawa dahil sa masayang reaksiyon ng mga tao.
“Believe me, I can do both!” ulit ni Uma.
“But…but…” pilit uling pagtatangka ni Uma na linawin ang kanyang sinabi. “It’s not who you choose or who you wanna be with, it’s the person. No, really guys, really!”
“Kung saan ka maligaya, doon ka,” sambit ni Cristy kay Uma.
“Opo, opo!” pagsang-ayon naman ng dating PBB housemate.
Uma has been liberal in saying that he can do any gender, ano mas ang nae-enjoy niya?
“Wala pa… I mean, wala akong pakialam kung ano siya at sino siya. For everyone out there bago magpakasal, enjoy your life and I am enjoying my life. I’m gonna do lahat ng puwedeng gawin bago mag-isip na bago magpakasal or to settling down,” sagot ni Uma.
Ipinagtapat ni Uma na kasal siya dati sa isang babae, pero hindi naging successful ang kanilang marriage. Kaya naman kung sakali man daw na may susunod siyang makakarelasyon, sisiguraduhin niyang magiging masaya siya.
KATHERINE DE CASTRO. Pagkatapos ng kanyang nakakagulat na rebelasyon ay inumpisahan na ang pagtatanong ng invited press kay Uma.
Totoo bang nagkaroon siya ng relasyon kay Katherine de Castro, ang co-host niya sa ABS-CBN travel show na Trip na Trip? Si Katherine ay anak ni dating Vice President Noli de Castro.
“Nanligaw ako kay Kat-Kat? No! We’re just friends,” sagot ni Uma.
Bakit siya nag-resign sa Trip na Trip?
“Walang away between me and Kat-Kat, there’s no samaan ng loob,” paglilinaw niya. “You feel when it’s time to leave. It’s not the happiness. Kailangan mong lumaki. Kailangan mong to go beyond, we’re all wanna–”
Pinutol ni Mo ang sinabi ni Uma dahil aniya, hindi nagre-resign ang isang talent sa kanyang show. Hindi rin daw aalis ang isang talent sa isang show kung wala itong problema.
“Hindi ko alam,” pag-iwas na lang ni Uma para hindi na makipagdiskusyon kay Mo.
SAM MILBY. Nakumusta rin kay Uma ang sitwasyon nila ni Sam Milby, na nakasama niya noon sa PBB house. Magkaibigan pa rin ba silang dalawa?
“Kaibigan… Look, lahat ng artista and pag nakita ko siya, I say hi. Pero kaibigan, we’ve never been friends. Pero sa loob ng Bahay [ni Kuya], we were all close. After ng PBB, close pa rin kami, mga shows-shows. Pero after that, each one had to go this way,” paliwanag niya.
Tanong ni Mo kay Uma: “Are you still upset kay Sam dahil sa pagde-deny niya ng anak niya with your sister? Kasi we’ve been open about this. Alam ko noong una, no’ng nangyari ito, ikinuwento mo na ito sa akin at sa TV. Are you still upset dahil up to now, hindi pa rin niya na-accept yung anak niya sa sister mo?”
Sagot ni Uma: “One thing I cannot… I don’t wanna talk about Sam again. Look, yung issue lumabas few months ago. I was hurt dahil wala taong nakinig sa akin, lahat sila nag-curse sa akin, tinira nila ako, tinira ang sister ko. My sister is a private person.
“Lalo na her daughter is three years old, nakakaintindi na now, she goes to school. I don’t want people to talk na ganito, like, ‘Hey, anak ka ng ganyan!’ Tumahimik lang ako. I left for Israel. Tumahimik lang ako. Doon ako nasaktan because even yung mga taong nirespeto ko sa showbiz…I’m so upset talaga.”
Nagbalik-tanaw si Mo na tatlo o dalawang taon na raw ang nakararaan nang malaman niya ang tungkol sa isyu at ang pagdi-deny ni Sam sa anak nito diumano sa kapatid ni Uma. Noong mga panahong ‘yon ay alinlangan daw lumantad si Uma dahil baka raw maapektuhan si Sam at pati ang network nito. Ayaw raw ni Uma na makasakit ng ibang tao. Pero ipinapaliwanag ni Mo na ang kapakanan ng kanyang kapatid na babae at ang anak nito ang nakasalalay.
“Exactly!” sambit ni Uma. “Sasabihin ko uli, hindi ako nabuntis, hindi binuntis, hindi ako nanganak… I don’t know who’s the father. Come on! Come on! I don’t know who’s the father but I just wanna protect my family, my sister, and her daughter.”
How’s the kid now?
“She’s good. She’s pretty well,” tugon ni Sam.
DNA TEST. Tinanong ni Mo si Uma kung sa palagay niya ay malilinawan lang ang isyung ito kung sasailalim sa DNA test ang sinasabing anak diumano ni Sam, gaya nga ng madalas sabihin ng singer-actor sa kanyang interviews na isailalim sa DNA test ang bata para malaman kung anak nga niya ito o hindi.
“No! No!” sabi ni Uma. “Matatapos lahat ng tsismis kung lahat tayo tatahimik. Kasi, again, wala akong nakukuha o napapala sa tsismis na ‘yan. Ang nasasaktan ay isang tao and my sister. Yung bata, nakakaintindi na. So, sana… I swore before, I mean no’ng unang lumabas ang tsismis, kung lalabas again, iba na ang gagawin ko. I will fight. Siyempre, she’s my sister. Wala akong family dito, dalawa lang kami. Kung lumabas again, I will fight.”
Sa parte naman ni Sam ay ilang beses na niyang pinasungalingan na may anak siya kahit na kaninong babae.
“Like I’ve said, matagal na isyu na ito and I already answered about it and from all I know, wala akong anak kahit sino. I don’t have a son to anybody. At saka, parang naaawa ako sa kapatid ni Uma, kasi hindi naman siya showbiz. And she lives a private life and I don’t think she should be brought into this. Siyempre ako, sanay naman ako, showbiz ako. But let’s respect her privacy, di ba?” sabi ni Sam sa panayam sa kanya ng PEP na lumabas noong May 9, 2010.
Kumusta naman ang pagiging ama ni Uma sa sarili niyang pamangkin?
“Being a father is not easy at all. Sobrang hirap kasi siyempre, yung baby popoo, pupunasan mo. You’re not ready. Siyempre, challenging, masarap lumalaki yung bata. In-adopt ko siya, she’s Khouny,” pagbabalita niya.
Kinuwestiyon ang pagtanggi nilang isailalim sa DNA test ang bata. Ito ang pinupunto ng marami para raw matapos na ang isyu.
Paliwanag naman ni Uma, “It’s not me. It’s my sister who never wanted to talk about it. She never said na it was Sam or that guy. Wala siyang pakialam kung sinuman yun. She got pregnant and it was her kalokohan at paninindigan niya.”

Jennifer Aniston and Courtney together again in Cougar Town
This will definitely be a hoot! BFFs together again in Cougar Town. According to
Just Jared, Jennifer Aniston will guest-star on Cougar Town airing early in the season that would be starting on September 22nd. Woot woot!
I loved their team up on Friends and to remain BFFs all these years, it would be nice to see them both on the show.

When love of food goes online – SUCCESS!
I read blogs. That’s part of keeping my blog up-to-date. I visit all kinds of blogs that tackle many different subjects. It could be a religious, personal, travel or food blog. I read them. That is where I take my ideas from and I actually follow quite a few blogs just because I find their content of great interest and some of them have become really good friends of mine.
Being Filipino and all, there are food blogs that I follow and food blogs that I don’t follow. The food blogs that I don’t follow is due to one reason and one reason only. The posts are simply about Pinoy foods that I already know how to make and have already tried. It doesn’t interest me much.
Is Kris Aquino the new host of Wowowee? Willie Revillame’s return is not certain according to new reports.
Truth be told, Willie Revillame may not be returning to his game show Wowowee after all. Recent confirmed reports are betting against Cristy Fermin’s statement that Willie’s return to the noontime show is definite.
Recent developments confirm that Kris Aquino (from a supposedly reliable ABS-CBN insider) will host the noontime show upon her return from her vacation in the States. She is scheduled to return to the Philippines on July 30th and Cristy Fermin’s statement of Willie’s return to Wowowee did not state any date at all.
A weekend in New York City can still be fun.
It has been quite sometime now that I have strolled the streets of Manhattan. It’s a skip and a jump for me and I wish I would make time to visit. I normally visit Manhattan during the Christmas season while Times Square and Macy’s are all decked up in wonderful holiday decorations.
Last weekend, I ended up in New York City not but choice (ehemm!) but because a friend of mine was visiting from Hong Kong.
Willie Revillame’s Return to Wowowee inevitable?
It has been confirmed by TV5′s gossip host Cristy Fermin that Willie Revillame will be going back to Wowowee. The rumored date is July 31st but it wasn’t confirmed by Cristy.
According to the write-up at PEP, Cristy believes that Willie is ready to “forgive” and go back to the once popular game show, Wowowee.
There are also “alleged animosities” between Pokwang and Willie Revillame. Cristy was strong to say that she is someone who is “taong walang utang na loob” (a person who disregards gratitude). Hmmm..
My question is: Why is Cristy Fermin getting involved with another network’s issue? Is that even fair?
Charice is requesting Glee to cast her as a Filipino student
The much-publicized and much-awaited appearance of Charice on the very popular and mega-hit show Glee is set to be another honor under the international pop princess’ belt. She is set to start shooting next month for the next season of Glee.
But did you know that she requested Glee to cast her as a “Filipino” student? Yes, that’s how proud Charice is of her heritage and it is very humbling. A true pride and joy of the Philippines, Charice continues to make every Filipino around the world proud to call her “our very own”.
She also denied that her talent fee is now $100,000 USD because she is fairly new in the industry to demand such a very high fee.

ABS-CBN Releases Official Statement on Wowowee and Willie Revillame
It looks like there hasn’t been a final decision made about Willie Revillame and Wowowee’s fate on ABS-CBN. There has not been a statement issued by ABS-CBN in the past and to stop the rumor mills from spinning, ABS-CBN finally issued a formal statement only to deny the circulating rumors without giving information about any decision or future regarding Willie Revillame and Wowowee.
Here’s the statement issued by ABS-CBN:
“Ang mga lumalabas na bali-balita tungkol kay Willie Revillame at sa Wowowee ay mga espekulasyon. Nag-usap na ang ABS-CBN management at si Willie kung ano ang options o mga posibleng gagawin pagkatapos ng kanyang break. Wala pang napagkakasunduan ang ABS-CBN at si Willie. Kung mayroon mang pagbabagong magaganap, ito’y opisyal na ipahahayag ng ABS-CBN sa takdang panahon.”
