TV5 Partners with World’s No-1 weather news service

CIGNAL, the Philippines’ fastest growing satellite TV provider and TV5 sister company, will launch the Weather Information Network (WIN) – the country’s first dedicated 24/7 weather and public information channel. The launch is opportune as the country prepares for the onset of the rainy season which according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) starts the middle of May this year.

PAGASA Chief Dr. Nathaniel Servando singled out TV5 and lauded its commitment to improving weather news broadcasting, “TV5’s continuing improvement in their weather broadcasting system and closer cooperation with PAGASA will contribute significantly to the reduction of damages and casualties due to severe weather events.” “The longstanding collaboration between PAGASA and the media, TV5 in particular has served the public very well specially during extreme weather events by communication accurate weather information in a timely and prudent manner to the public,” he added.

TV5 invested heavily in developing its weather news broadcast capability by partnering with METRA, the world’s number 1 weather news service and recognized provider of weather products and services, such as graphical rendition of weather updates for use by its media and other industry clients. METRA is New Zealand’s privately owned meteorological service and is a member of the UN World Meteorological Organization.  It has over a hundred clients in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North America and Australia. Multinational corporations, such as those involved in energy, infrastructure, retail and food services, use METRA to fine tune its operations in order to maximize profits and minimize loss.

9/11 Takes Centerstage in CSI: NY Season 8 – Tribute episode reveals the old Mac Taylor

Brace yourself for an emotionally powerful premiere episode this May when CSI: NY Season 8 returns to AXN every Wednesday 10PM starting May 16. The premiere will touch on a global catastrophe close to the hearts of viewers and especially so for Detective Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) – the 9/11 attacks which took place in New York in 2001.

For the first time in eight years, fans will get to see Mac’s wife, Claire, (Jaime Ray Newman/ General Hospital, Eastwick) appear in the series through flashbacks in the Season 8 premiere, which honours the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Mac lost Claire on that fateful day as the planes crashed into the Twin Towers where she worked and her body was never found again. With Mac considering retirement in last season’s finale, the tragedy has prompted him to leave the crime lab for the DNA lab, where he pitches in to identify the remains of 9/11 victims.

“We’re taking all of our characters back to that day,” executive producer Pam Veasy explained. “You will get to see them together. You see why Claire loved Mac, and why Mac loved premiere episode brings us back to a very different Mac Taylor, from a hardened detective who has seen the world; to a man who had much more joy and hope, a man who was in love. Viewers get a glimpse into where the sentimental Mac came from, the one who could not bear to get rid of a beach ball his late wife had blown up, simply because ‘her breath is still in there’.

There is an interesting crossover between reel and real in this tribute episode, as Gary Sinise (a recipient of the Presidential Citizen’s Medal who has been involved in several 9/11 charities) had a personal involvement in setting up the Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance. His band, Lieutenant Dan Band, raised money to complete the memorial back in 2006. Sinise, like millions of people all over the world, had his life changed by the tragedy in a profound way. her.”

It’s a TV Extravaganza this February on AXN – NEW! Series The Firm – See it first on AXN Asia

Photo Credit: “Sony Pictures Television/Frank Ockenfels”

Mark our words, February is going to be epic on AXN as modern legal thriller The Firm will be simulcast across Sony Pictures Television’s global network of channels including AXN in Asia!

The First AXN Original Series – The Firm

AXN viewers in Asia will be able to enjoy the two-hour premiere of The Firm on February 19 (Sunday) at 9.50PM, on the same day it airs across 126 million households on SPT channels globally in Asia, Latin America, Central Europe, Iberia, Italy, Africa, Russia and the Baltics.

An AXN original series based on John Grisham’s bestselling novel, the TV reincarnation picks up ten years after the movie of the same name starring Tom Cruise. Hot shot lawyer, Mitch McDeere, brought down a Memphis law firm fronting the Chicago mob. Mitch and his family attempt to reclaim their lives by moving to Washington DC to start their own firm after leaving the Federal Witness Protection Program. However, the past has a way of catching up with them.

The stellar cast includes Josh Lucas (The Lincoln Lawyer) and Juliette Lewis (Natural Born Killers). Lucas is cast as Mitch McDeere, the role originally made famous by Cruise, with Lewis playing McDeere’s receptionist, Tammy Hemphill (previously played by Holly Hunter in the film). Canadian cast members include Molly Parker (Deadwood) as McDeere’s wife, Abby, and Callum Keith Rennie (Battlestar Galactica) as his brother, Ray, and Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica) as Alex Clark, the firm’s managing partner.

Showrunner Lukas Reiter, a former prosecutor who has worked on The Practice and Boston Legal, was the one who first sought out John Grisham in the hopes of scripting a sequel and eventually got him on board as executive producer. On what to expect from the new Mitch, Reiter teased, “What made Mitch Mcdeere so special is his ability to find the hidden solution long after the average person believes there is no way out…There’s a great amount of fun to be had watching Josh Lucas find those solutions.”

Shot on location in Canada, The Firm will keep viewers on the edge of their seats and fans of Grisham can anticipate the same kinds of drama and thriller feel that made the book and the 1993 film adaptation so original!

Kapatid TV5 and Aksyon TV International expand worldwide reach; now available in Guam via MCV Broadband

In a little over a year, TV5 has surpassed industry expectations by becoming the fastest rising network in the Philippines. Its fresh and dynamic programs consistently generate high ratings, amassing a growing fanbase across the country and around the world.

The Kapatid Network’s entry into the international scene has been warmly welcomed by nostalgic Filipinos overseas who are now getting a taste of what’s new and popular on Philippine TV with the expansion of TV5 International’s two channels – Kapatid TV5 and Aksyon TV International.

Run by TV5’s affiliate company Pilipinas Global Network Limited (PGN Limited), Kapatid TV5 and Aksyon TV International had a successful debut in the Middle East through Orbit Showtime Network (OSN) in July this year.

Two months since its official launch, the two channels are now seen by over 200 hundred thousand viewers in the regions.

Encouraged by the strong reception in the Middle East, the two channels have recently been launched in Guam via MCV Broadband, a top telecommunications and cable provider in Guam. MCV utilizes innovative technology to provide the highest level of signal quality.

Filipinos living in Guam can now watch Kapatid TV5’s in-demand flagship programs such as “Wil Time Big time”, “Face to Face,” “Babaeng Hampaslupa,” “Juicy”, Paparazzi,” “Talentadong Pinoy,” “Wow Mali,” “R U Kidding Me?,” “Sugod Mga Kapatid,” “Bagets,” “Iskul Bukol,” among many others.

Meanwhile, Aksyon TV International promises to serve Filipinos quality news, information, and public service through top-rated News5 programs such as “Aksyon,” “Aksyon Journalismo,” “T3”, and soon “Pinoy Explorer” and the “PBA” games.

The warm reception and overwhelming response have prompted TV5 and PGN Limited to be more aggressive in pursuing their commitment to reach more Filipinos worldwide. “Our vision is to build a global community of subscribers who wish to remain connected with their Filipino roots. We shall provide our global Kapatids a bundle of services that will not only bring them even closer to their loved ones back home, but with products that will make them even prouder as Filipinos wherever they are in the world”, said Claro Carmelo Ramirez, President of PGN Limited.

So, X-Factor Premiered last night. Did you like it? Take the POLL!

Facebook and Twitter was buzzing last night as X-Factor premiered on Fox at 8:00 p.m. last night.  I was not going to watch it but everyone kept commenting about it, I had to see for myself.

I saw the performance of both Stacy Francis and Chris Rene.  I was not totally blown away although the performance was really good.  It’s like an America’s Got Talent copycat. No?

I don’t particularly like watching the goofballs who they feature with no talent but featured only for entertainment.  I don’t like wasting my time watching those. I want to see real talent. Paula Abdul is still entertaining though but the chemistry among the judges doesn’t seem to fly with me. First night and Paula had to create drama already by throwing up. Hmmmm.

So, did you like it?  Hate it?  Take our poll.

Pinoy Explorer pilot posts high ratings – TV5 ranks No. 1 on Sunday primetime

The Kapatid Network reigned supreme in the highly-coveted primetime block (6pm to 10pm) last Sunday (September 18) with an 8.5-percent AMR (28.8-percent audience share) compared to ABS-CBN’s 8.3-percent AMR (28.1-percent audience share) and GMA’s 7.8-percent AMR (26.5-percent audience share), data from Nielsen Media Research in Mega Manila showed.

Boosted by the formidable program lineup of Comedy King Dolphy’s Pidol’s Wonderland (5:30pm), Aga Muhlach’s Pinoy Explorer (6:30pm), Bossing Vic Sotto’s Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (7:30pm) and Ryan Agoncillo’s Talentadong Pinoy (8:30pm), TV5’s Sunday primetime block continues to raise the bar in offering shows that highlight moral values, education and Pinoy pride.
