I’m so excited for Rio in 2016. Maybe I’ll pay a visit before then.

Going to Brazil last month was a dream come true. Little did I know that I will fall in love with the city and its people. Yes, Chuva Chienes is learning how to speak Portuguese. O meu nome Chuva. E moro em Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Muito fazer. Obrigada!
But the most exciting part of it was very timely when Rio won the bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics last week beating Chicago, Madrid and Tokyo. And this video shows you why I fell in love with the city.
Take a look:

Sao Paulo Brazil – A trip I will never forget. Part II

Okay, so there I was… in a country where spoken English is very minimal. Thank goodness for my friend who speaks Portuguese fluently – otherwise, I would have been lost in everything.
Well, they are really not boylets.. mga billboard and magazine models lang at mga DJs ng mga clubs in and around Sao Paulo. Well-connected si ateng. I will tell you later kung ano ang connection.. unahin muna natin ang paglibot sa building…
Sao Paulo Brazil – A trip I will never forget.

I never dreamed a time in my life that I would one day travel to Brazil and fall in love with the people there. It’s a place where time doesn’t seem to matter. Kaya siguro voted ng Forbes ang Rio de Janeiro as the number one happiest city in the world according to a Barrio Siete write-up ng sister kong si Mel Beckham. It’s not the same as here in the United States where people are always rushing. Rushing to go to work, rushing to come home…rushing… rushing… rushing.
The trip was nine and a half hours long. I had to drive from my place to fly out of JFK International Airport. So, add another two and a half hours to that. Seriously though, I was traveling with a friend from New York kaya we decided to fly out of JFK instead.

Here’s my view from 30,000 feet. This was before we landed in Sao Paulo.

And it was a little hazy dahil umaga kami dumating.

Ayan, medyo kita na ang city of Sao Paulo.

Ayan – that’s the view bago mag-landing.

This is the elevator that opened up to the Penthouse.. may mga special codes chorva pa para makarating ka sa tuktok!

Through the courtesy of my friend, I got to stay at a Penthouse in the city of Moema.

Heto ang view from the balcony. Enclosed ng glass ang balcony niya.

Heto ang length ng balcony and it goes all the way around the Penthouse.

Haha!
This is just the beginning of the trip… hintayin ninyo ang series ng postings ko about Brazil. Nakakaloka!!
The Butse Gang’s Camping Trip – August 14-16

Hindi ako sanay matulog sa sahig, pero the Butse Gang’s (used-to-be-yearly) Camping Trip is an exception. Friends plan this trip every year. Kahit maraming okrayan sa pag-paplano, we still manage.
This year, konti na lang kami. We used to go with the whole gang – siguro mga 20 people kami. It’s a campsite in Pennsylvania – All-Male lang ‘to…bawal ang babae. In the years past, kasama rin namin ang Reyna Elena sa gimik na ‘to but not this year.
All-in-all, it was a success. There were 13 of us and we occupied a good amount of space at the camp site. Bongga naman ang naging resulta so I would like to share pictures with you.
Sabi ko nga, “Monay, I like your hat pero distracting siya!“ Hahaha! Sabi ng Monay, “Inggitera!“
Each and every one pitched in. Tulong tulong sa set-up ng tents, sa cooking, washing pots and pans at kung ano ano pa. It was a tame and relaxing weekend.
Thanks to everyone. It was lots of fun.
Southwest Airlines – Let the Air Fare Wars Begin
Southwest Airlines is giving all of us a gift this summer. Fares as low as $30 – $90 dollars – Round Trip (depending on distance). They claim that this is the biggest sale they’ve had in the company’s history.
To avail of this special, Travelers must book their flights by midnight (12:00 a.m.) tonight, July 8th 2009.
American Airlines was quick to follow suit by offering $200.00 RT ticket to anywhere in the US (plus taxes and fees). These types of promotions advertised by airlines including AirTran Airways and Frontier Airlines are an early start in the industry’s efforts to fill their capacity when travel begins to slow after Labor Day.
According to the News:
Southwest structured its sale based on the distance flown – one-way fares of $30 for trips of up to 400 miles, $60 for 400 to 750 miles and $90 for more than 750 miles. That offers a significant discount from the usual nonsale tickets sold several weeks in advance.
From Dallas Love Field, for example, a ticket to such nearby cities as Oklahoma City, Austin, San Antonio and Houston would cost $30 one-way, compared with its usual deepest discount of $49 each way or $130 for a last-minute purchase.
In the second group with $60 fares were such cities as Nashville, Tenn.; Kansas City, Mo.; St. Louis; and Albuquerque, N.M. In the third group with $90 fares are the more distant cities, including Chicago and those along the East and West Coasts.
A Dallas-Boston round-trip ticket on Southwest, for example, would cost at least $359 before Sept. 9, but $209 including taxes and fees on Sept. 9 and afterward.
“For those who have been waiting for the cheapest fare sale of the year, I can’t think of anything better,” said Tom Parsons of BestFares.com.
So, what are you waiting for?! Go online and make your booking!

Chuvahotness # 16 – Piolo Pascual
chuvachienes on Hunks, Movies, Music, Showbiz Hollywood, Showbiz Philippines, Television, Travel, Videos

You are probably wondering why it took me so long to include Piolo Pascual on my list of “Chuva Hotness”. I was wondering as well. I realized that I haven’t featured the one and only, charming and sexy Piolo here on my blog. It was an oversight on my part. If I have to put my money where my mouth is (no pun intended! hehe), I would definitely put it all on Piolo. He is the most bankable artist-leading man in the Philippines. Hot and Sexy.

Birthday Boys – Charles Darwin and Abe Lincoln – Feb 12 1809 – Happy Birthday!
Charles Robert Darwin FRS (12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882) was an English naturalist who realised and demonstrated that all species of life have evolved over time from common ancestors through the process he called natural selection. The fact that evolution occurs became accepted by the scientific community and much of the general public in his lifetime, while his theory of natural selection came to be widely seen as the primary explanation of the process of evolution in the 1930s, and now forms the basis of modern evolutionary theory. In modified form, Darwin’s scientific discovery is the unifying theory of the life sciences, providing logical explanation for the diversity of life.
At Edinburgh University Darwin neglected medical studies to investigate marine invertebrates, then the University of Cambridge encouraged a passion for natural science. His five-year voyage on HMS Beagle established him as an eminent geologist whose observations and theories supported Charles Lyell’s uniformitarian ideas, and publication of his journal of the voyage made him famous as a popular author. Puzzled by the geographical distribution of wildlife and fossils he collected on the voyage, Darwin investigated the transmutation of species and conceived his theory of natural selection in 1838. Although he discussed his ideas with several naturalists, he needed time for extensive research and his geological work had priority. He was writing up his theory in 1858 when Alfred Russel Wallace sent him an essay which described the same idea, prompting immediate joint publication of both of their theories.
The best job in the world, you just can’t apply for it.

Mga ditseeeeeeee! I’m sure you’ve heard about this friggin island in Australia already by now. It has been all over the news and quite frankly, the job is fairly easy. You will be in charge of the upkeep of the island… monitor population of whales and turtles (to my understanding). ..
For six months, you could be paid $100,000 USD by relocating to Hamilton Island (Australia’s Great Barrier Reef) and you have to blog about your stay in the island (every week mind you! – oh like that is so friggin hard!) They will even pay for your airfare to and from the island and you will be staying at an ocean front villa na merong swimming pool! Apparently, this program (or publicity for that matter) is to boost Australia’s Tourism.

Plastic bag sculptures in NYC by Joshua Allen Harris – Very neat!

I saw this on Anderson Cooper podcast this morning and I thought it was pretty neat. Apparently, this street art is created by an Artist named Joshua Allen Harris. It’s made from trash bags and placed strategically on top of the subway vents all over the streets of New York City. Wouldn’t this just scare you to death if you didn’t know about it? I think it’s awesome! Haha!
I’m not a fashionista but I was glad to be in Milan during Fashion Week.
Yes peeps! You read that right. I arrived in Milan last Sunday to attend a conference only to find out that it is Milan’s Fashion Week 2008. What gave me the clue? Well, first of all the hotel I am staying at is filled with models. Even before that, I was greeted at the airport by a HUGE Dolce & Gabbana billboard with half-naked models (men and women) in it! What a welcome ha?
Being glad to be in Milan during Fashion Week is one thing, celebrity hob-nobbing is another. By chance lang ang celebrity sighting – kaya view the pictures below to find out… I have been to Rome and Florence and I always loved Italy because of it’s history and it’s architecture, not to mention the fabulous art pieces that surrounds you. I will be leaving on Sunday to head back to the U.S. of A.

This weekend, I leave for Milan. See you all when I get back!

Here we go again peeps!! It’s time for travel again. This should be my second-to-the-last travel this year. I still have Mexico City in the first part of October but that would simply be a three-day affair.
Global Integration is where the bet is at this time. To be completely global, our company would have to integrate to all different systems all over the world. It’s nice that I had gotten involved with this process since I like traveling and seeing the world.
In a week, I’ll be leaving for Milan, Italy
It’s another one of those trips. I am excited actually. Milan could be a good place to purchase designer goods but I doubt that I’ll be doing that while there because the Euro is just too high against the dollar. I do want to purchase at least one thing as a token of my trip. Hmmmm… artwork maybe?
Opo, peeps – my trip to Milan is going to push through. One of the last partners I have to integrate this year is Italy. Next year, it will be Japan and Saudi Arabia. Wow! Those are places I’d like to see.
Do you travel much? I do and listen to this…
For many of you who have been following my blog, you all know that I have been a resident in many different states across the US, and that includes New York. I lived in New York for approximately three years before moving back to Maryland. One thing great about New York is that you have several choices for airport of departure when you travel. If you don’t like JFK, go to La Guardia and if not La Guardia – Newark.
The only thing is that Newark could be a drive no one wants to take but the Newark Airport is nice. I flew out of there during my travel to Asia last year and I cannot believe how short of a line there was on anything. You don’t have to fall in line for so long like Philadelphia or any other airports around the country. And the greatest thing since sliced bread is the Newark Airport Shuttle that could shuttle you back and forth from JFK, La Guardia and Newark. It will even take you to your hotel if you’re traveling on business between 125th Street and Battery Park! How convenient is that?
GO Airlink Shuttle offers affordable, reliable and safe ground transportation services throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs. They operate 365 days of the year and also offer $5.00 discounts if you book online. So, if you’re a traveler, I wouldn’t even think twice about using this service. It’s your convenience for almost nothing!
Chuva is going to Milan, Italy next month.
It’s official. i was notified by my boss yesterday that I do have to go to Milan next month. It’s another project that I am involved with to complete our Global Integration. I had a blast in Germany and Amsterdam back in June while we were integrating four countries including Czech Republic, Germany, Spain and Italy. In the process, the folks whom I met through those integration projects have invited me to their respective cities and promised me a free tour!
Well, Madrid, Spain is a place I’ve longed to see but I have never had a chance to go. With an open invitaion from our colleagues in Spain, I thought I’d look into Madrid Hotels In Destinia (2) before my trip next month. who knows, I may be able to do a skip-and-a-jump trip to Spain as well.
The tour will be free already, courtesy of my colleagues. I just need to worry about Cheap Hotels where I could stay while I’m there. It’s probably going to be a two-night stay anyway so I should be able to find some place where I could rest my head for a couple of nights. Lodging in Europe
can be quite expensive so I should really try and find Cheap Madrid Hotels sooner rather than later.
The Finale… Montreal Trip
chuvachienes on Hunks, Travel
We really went to Montreal for the Gay Pride Weekend. It was a time to celebrate diversity and be proud of who we are. The turnout was amazing. Imagine the humble beginnings of Gay Pride – from Stonewall to a Global Celebration of being yourself. It is liberating in a way that I cannot explain. I used to stay away from these events before I was out but now that I’ve gotten wiser (I didn’t say older gherls!), I appreciate the camaraderie among the people who share the same vision with you – Equality.
As much as I joke about men, men, men, during these events, it has a dual purpose for me. Of course the men are nice but celebrating freedom of expression is a great thing. There are countries still today, that do not condone homosexuality. (Uhhhmm – hello Iraq!) There are still countries where people like us are oppressed and terrorized. We have to stand on their behalf and let the world know that we will always be here and we will fight. We’re not going away because we still have a long way to go with regards to fighting for our rights. Life as we know it could pass us by without standing up for what we believe in. If we don’t do it now, the stones will cry out!
Peace!

Food, food – glorious food!
These are the food that we ate while in Montreal. Can you imagine eating at a Filipino Restaurant in Montreal?! Well, we did! The food was good too! I didn’t particularly like their ‘binagoongang baboy‘ because it was too bland. Isn’t it supposed to be a bit saltier than normal because of the ‘bagoong’? Oh well. At least you will know that when you’re in Montreal and you start craving for rice – - there’s always Bahay Kubo.
First at Est Asie (East Asia):
More photos from our trip to Montreal.
I can only liken this trip to our trip in New Orleans for Southern Decadence back in 2002 I believe. I went there with two friends, Soonyee and Sherwin. We had the most fun without the drama. The funniest thing happened after that year, my other friends went because of our stories. However, they didn’t have the same experience. Which was a shame. Apparently, in one year – a lot had changed and it was not as free as before.
Anyways mga ka-bords, here are more pictures that we took while in Montreal. Continue kami sa sightseeing.

Notre-Dame Basilica, Montreal – a treasure indeed!
We were always eating out while in Montreal. The one place we went to was on a walking distance from where we were staying. It’s called Est Asie (at first I thought they told me we’re eating out at Ecstacy… ) and the food was good, a bit pricy for Asian Cuisine but hey – you’re at the heart of St. Catherine so don’t expect any less. I will post pictures of our food later.

Another nice thing about Montreal… the menchu menchaka…
chuvachienes on Hunks, Travel
I was a bit curious as to why anyone that I know who comes back from Montreal will brag about it being the “best kept secret in North America”. I didn’t realize how it could be that different from the U.S. until I got there. This is a place for those seeking a taste of Europe without spending the Euros. Granted, the Canadian dollar exchange is no longer what it used to be. It was probably two times better before because you can spend less when you visit Canada. While we were there, the exchange was almost equal between the U.S. Dollar and the Canadian Dollar. So, it is a bit more expensive now than before. But let’s face it, I was a virgin in this is my time.
Montreal, My newest playground – continued…
Haha!
It turned out that Quebec is celebrating their 400th year this year so we took the opportunity to get some pictures by the square in Old Montreal.. The picture above was very fitting so I had Monay pose for a shot. He seemed to be enjoying it as you can see from his pouted lips. O divey?! The picture was taken while Coletchina’s boyfriend was getting a Henna tattoo on his arm.
Hayan, diba nakita na ninyo si Monay?! Mukhang mataray diba? Part din siya ng Butsi Gang although you rarely see him on here. Just like the usual steps to becoming a blogger, lurker yan before. Ob kors, wala raw syang time to do blogging pero siya ang photographer ko while we were in Montreal.
My latest playground… Montreal.

Of course I got your attention!
Hello peeps! I’m sure you know by now that I just spent the weekend in Montreal, in Quebec Province – Canada. It would be considered one of my greatest trip for this year. I had a blast. You probably read my post about our first day in Montreal. And then, I tried to post another entry but since I forgot my power adapter at home, I was only able to post a part of it. The entry was supposed to be about our dinner (courtesy of Monay of America’s Top Monay) to celebrate Monay’s birthday at Au Pied de Cochon.
Our dinner – - you would have thought we were on death row… ;)
We checked into our hotel and rested a little bit more. Then we took our showers after a couple of hours and headed to our dinner reservation, courtesy ni Monay. O deba? Birthday gurl always wins – kaya, pinabayaan namin ang lowlah ninyo. Haha!!
Since I’m running out of power supply juice, and I left my power supply at home – this may be my last post until I get back to the U.S. tomorrow. I will post the pics of the boylets. Ang daming wafuuuuuuuuuu mga bords!!!
Bienvenue!!! We have arrived in Montreal, Quebec Province, Canada
Bon Jour!! Peeps – I said I wasn’t going to blog while away on vacation. Pero, sa sobrang excitement ng trip na ‘to, I had to blog about it. If ever I move away from the U.S. for another place, it will be Montreal, Canada. I LOVE THIS PLACE!! We left Wednesday at around midnight with an anticipated arrival in Montreal the next day at around 8 or 9 a.m.
The weather was cloudy and it rained a couple of times but we still made good time even with all the stops for food, pee and poo… hahaha! We took turns driving but one of our friends who doesn’t mind driving, drove longer than the rest.

This was taken right at dawn while we were passing by Albany, NY.
Tschuss : Deutscheland – I’m going home… and by the way, where in the hell is Ausfahrt?
Time for my exit… – this way please.
When you spend a month in another place, be it for vacation or for work – you just can’t help but get attached to the things that you had gotten accustomed to. It’s funny how sometimes we miss what we don’t have and we hate what we have. Life seems to work that way just to play with us.
I have come to love Germany as much as I have loved every city that I’ve been to. There’s so much energy here that you just can’t help but fall in love with it. The EURO 2008 games have added to the display of how much people love their country. You can see flags of Germany all over the place. They have flag poles in their backyards with the German flag raised with pride!! Read more
A little taste of Amsterdam
Well, mga ditse!!!!!! Ob kors – you heard about my trip to Amsterdam. We had a Global conference and it was the most fantastic experience I’ve had in a long time.
Alam ninyo ba – the conference was only for one day (well, actually the whole weekend, pero excused ako sa second day). It was a well-organized event with delegates from Turkey, Japan, Colombia, Hong Kong, China, Netherlands, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and ob kors – United States. At sino ang rep ng U.S.? Hulaan ninyo!! Hahaha!
Eight more days – - I’m coming home…
It didn’t seem so long ago when I left for Germany. I thought a month was a loooooooooooong time. I had no idea that it could go by this quickly. I have shared my journey with you although, it’s very hard to come back to the hotel late at night after dinner and drinks with colleagues (every night) and post the pictures.
A little bit delayed in posting the pics but I do hope that you will still share the journey with me. Medyo pagod na pagod lang talaga from working late nights and then out to dinner and drinks. I usually get back to the hotel at midnight. Pero mga ka-bords – ang ganda ng panahon dito and did you know that it is the Euro 2008!! Oo mga ka-bords – football is soo big here. Grabe – all over Europe. Tonight was the game between Germany and Portugal. Germany won again!!! Woohoo!!

Anovey?! Is he my new boyfriend? Love ko na sya…

This, they claim – is the tallest building in all of Germany.
I didn’t know that staying in Germany for one month is going to make me crazy! I’m not saying that I am not having fun here.. it’s a blast! The problem is, I can’t get away from my co-workers. This week was a bit uneventful dahil work to death kami talaga… after work, we go out to have dinner and then we drink whatelse? Beer!
Heto ang chika ko… may ka-office mate ako rito – who is only 32 years old. Pero, kilatisin ninyo kung anong hitsura niya ha and let me know.
Here are the latest pictures – - last Sunday, dumating yung colleague ko from the U.S. I mean, mabait siya and everything pero sa totoo lang ha? Ang baho ng hininga niya?! Wala bang nagturo sa kanyang mag-mumog? Grabe! Lalo pa when we were in the car to work – - gusto kong buksan lahat ng bintana pati sunroof.. hindi ako makahinga!!!!!!!!!!!! Shet shet shet!!
Anyway – - more pictures of downtown Frankfurt and meals of course.. yun lang naman makikita nyo rito no? Remember the Tess Dragon scandal… hmmpf.
Enough chitchat… here it is! Hulaan kung sino ang bago kong boyfriend…
Don’t get me wrong – it’s lovely here – - but I’m homesick… =(
Okay – it’s been over a week here in Germany and to tell you the truth, I am enjoying every bit of it. The problem is, I miss Jake (my dog) and I miss my bed. It’s nice to have down comforter and great room service but I really want to go home. I miss home.. =(
I have seen many places already since I’ve been here.. the tour in Frankfurt and the local pub with applewine and eisbein(sp?). It’s like eating “krispy pata” and it was soooo good… they should call it the “heart-attack dinner”. Grabe sa mantika.. .. parang galing from Rachel Lobangco’s face – - hahaha!! Miss Minola ghel!
Anyway, my first week was very eventful and quite entertaining because of our Czech colleagues. This week is not going to be much because I have a colleague from the U.S. here with me for the week and I can’t escape to do the things I want to do – - – if you know what I mean (wink wink).
Needless to say, it’s going to be all work this week with a little bit of fun. We’re scheduled to go on a Cross-Company 5K run on Wednesday and to watch a soccer (football) game on Thursday. The football game is so big here you should see the pictures I took. People can drink on the streets just like Bourbon Street in New Orleans but this is the whole city. They don’t care if you carry bottles, cans and even cases of beer with you during football season… that’s just the way it is.
Anyway, here are the pictures continued from my first post about my trip…. Read more
