Oh – how can you not love Prince Harry? He kissed a gay man for a beer.

Awwww! This is what I’m talking about. I have many friends who are straight and they are the most tolerant, most loving individuals I’ve known. They are not afraid to get close to gay people and they even find comfort and peace hanging out with “the likes of us”.
Reports at News of the World tells a story about 21-year old gay lad Rocky Bennett who was in a bar where Prince Harry visited. He took the courage to come up to Prince Harry, told him he would buy him a beer if Prince Harry kissed him. Guess what happened?

Comelec says gay party ‘immoral’
Posted by chuvachienes on November 14, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Are we living in the dark ages still? I was reading one of my favorite blogs and found a featured news segment about Comelec’s rejection of Ang Ladlad to be accredited as a party list due to grounds of advocating “sexual immorality” and “immoral doctrines“.
What? Is this for real? It’s all about human rights. We are all equal and regardless of sexual orientation, race or origin – each of us should be given the same right as everyone else.
I was not only disappointed about this decision but disheartened as well. I hope that what they did does not result in hatred and misunderstanding of the LGBT community. According to reports, the president of Ang Ladlad, Danton Remoto is going to take this all the way to the Supreme Court. More power to you Danton!! We have to continue to fight for equal rights.

This is why I am not too happy with Carrie Prejean right now.
Posted by chuvachienes on November 12, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I was really furious when I watched Meredith Vieira’s interview with Carrie Prejean on the Today Show. I watched her respond to the questions and watched her talk about how she is being attacked as a conservative woman and so forth. She even mentioned that she was being “Palinized” (referring to how ex-Alaskan governor Sarah Palin was attacked because she is a conservative). Can we get real here?
I am not a Democrat nor a Republican. In fact, I am a registered independent. The thing that irks me the most (regardless of party association) is hypocrisy. How can Carrie Prejean sit there and say that she is being attacked as a conservative when she was the one who was self-righteous in the first place yet when her life is dissected, we find all sorts of lies beneath her goody-two-shoes image. This is the same reason I hate self-righteous people condemning same-sex marriage or harping about why homosexuality is a sin and then in the end you find that they do the same exact things that they condemn!

We’ve heard about it, we knew about it and now it’s time to find out how Chastity Bono – daughter son of Sonny Bono and Cher looks like as a man. He officially had a sex change to become Chaz. I don’t think he looks much different but I heard that he looks forward to shaving in the morning now. He’s 40 years old.. and that is the age that most men start growing hair out of everywhere.. I wonder how he would like to pluck air from his ear.
Are you interested to see how she looks like today as a man? Well, you’re in for a treat – - – go ahead and JUMP…
Hate Crimes Bill Is Passed! October 28, 2009
Posted by chuvachienes on October 29, 2009 · Leave a Comment

We continue to make history and this one is close and very dear to my heart. I was still living in California at the time when Matthew Shepard, a young gay man – was cruelly beaten and left in the desert to die because he is gay. It was a very sad time for me.
Yesterday, President Barack Obama signed the Matthew and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act. A historic day not only for gays but for all Americans.
The Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act would expand the federal definition of hate crimes to include those motivated by gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and disability. It also will allow federal authorities to pursue hate-crimes cases when local authorities are either unable or unwilling to do so.
“We must stand against crimes that are meant not only to break bones, but to break spirits — not only to inflict harm, but to instill fear” … “Because no one in America should ever be afraid to walk down the street holding the hands of the person they love,”… “No one in America should be forced to look over their shoulder because of who they are or because they live with a disability.” – Pres. Barack Obama
This is a day in history that I will never forget. I am so glad that I lived to see it happen.

A movie about brothers who are also lovers. Controversial huh?
Posted by chuvachienes on October 22, 2009 · Leave a Comment

This will be a good movie for me to watch since I am trying to learn Portuguese – at the same time, the subject matter is so controversial that I am quite interested to see how they play the roles and how compelling it would be.
As you know, the movie is a Brazilian film entitled Do Começo Ao Fim. (From Beginning to End) It is a movie about brothers who are also lovers. Not only that the subject matter is quite taboo, it is also something that probably won’t go well in the U.S.
Watch the trailer after the JUMP and since the movie is premiering in Brazil next month – tell me what you think about it.

News of Celebrity Splits are quite rampant these days. Is there really true love?
It’s been reported first by In Touch Weekly that 36-year old T.R. Knight (Grey’s Anatomy) and his 20-year old boyfriend, Mark Cornelsen have called it quits. They do intend to remain friends and that’s a good thing.
T.R. is also performing on a musical through November 15th in Los Angeles entitled “Parade”. According to Access Hollywood, the actor also intends to have babies… ??? We’re not sure how he’s going to do it.. but I think that’s cute. I always thought he is cute anyway……
Hey T.R. – I’m single! Look me up on Facebook!
Rocky Road for Rosie O’Donnell and wife Kelli Carpenter? Splitsville?
Posted by chuvachienes on October 21, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I just want to find out why gays are screaming for gay marriage again? Wouldn’t it be easier to just say “See Ya!” – and move forward? I’m kidding of course but I read online today that Rosie O’ Donnell and partner Kelli Carpenter are “having issues” with their relationship.
If you remember, the couple got married in San Francisco back in 2004 for a very well-publicized wedding. As expected, tabloids targeted the couple and every once in a while, you read about breakup rumors. But this time, there may be truth to the rumors. After National Enquirer published the Kelli Carpenter moved out of their home back in August, Rosie felt compelled to say something about it. She told USA Today:
“Kelli and I love each other very much and we are working on our issues,” she told the newspaper as tears allegedly welled in her eyes. “Those are the only words I am ever going to say. Ever. And that is something that has been agreed upon by all parties.”
It would be a sad day if that happens. The kids they are raising together remains a priority however, according to her statement:
“But everything’s fine and everybody’s good and we’re still both raising them together. We will both continue to parent them and we’re friendly and everything’s all right.”

Did removing the much-awaited kissing scene between John Lloyd Cruz and Luis Manzano hurt the film’s “top-grosser” potential?

I can’t wait to watch the movie, IN MY LIFE. The come-back film of Ate Vi has surely become a hit among fans and the trio between her, Luis Manzano and John Lloyd Cruz was such a perfect chemistry that I expected the movie to become a serious hit.
And it has. With a reported amount of 80 million pesos earned on its first week, the film is definitely a hit. But, word-of-mouth has its powers. It came to light that the “highly-anticipated kissing scene” between John Lloyd Cruz and Luis Manzano was taken out of the film for reasons we are still unclear about.

The Gaydar Experiment on Facebook – Are you revealing too much?
Posted by chuvachienes on September 23, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I read that two MIT students ran an experiment using social media giant, FACEBOOK to determine if and whether a person is gay by using a formula to look at your affiliation, friends, religion blah blah blah and it could actually provide details that would likely say whether you’re gay or not?! Huh!!!
To a degree, I would agree. Just by looking at your associations on FB, no matter how you hide your true identity, one can pretty much guess whether you have the sling or the swing! I, for one could tell you that after comments left by my gay friends on my photos – I can assure you that no one in the world still think that I’m straight unless they are in super dooper denial (my eldest sister) and think that I’m still a good match for the nurse that she knows from the hospital where she works.
But affiliation to groups and religion? Maybe. I mean, most of the gays I know are Democrats and if 80 per cent of their friends are men… yeah… no-brainer there. But I do have gay Republican friends as well.
Hmmmm.. If you want to find out more, read the article here.
BB Gandanghari gets new set of wheels
Posted by chuvachienes on September 19, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Binibining Gandanghari, also known as BB these days, has received a classy gift from her brother Robin Padilla: a Honda CRV.
In a segment on Startalk, BB talked about how rapturously she received the Silverstone-colored compact sports utility vehicle and how she was, as her handler said, “na-shock sa caru [car] na bigay ni Robin!”
BB baptized the new car with a road trip to Batangas.
The fully paid top-of-the-line vehicle, however, is thought to be part of a down payment for a movie she and Robin would supposedly be making in the near future. Be it a gift or otherwise, it’s still a nice thing to have.
In a telephone interview with Startalk, BB shared more details about the SUV. Did she ask for it or was it given to her as gift?

Gays have become a commodity? Nurse Jackie’s Gay Kiss
Posted by chuvachienes on September 2, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I remember when I used to search high and low for gay-themed movies. It was very rare that you see two men kiss, unless it’s pornographic. Nowadays, you can see gay scenes everywhere. Don’t take me the wrong way. I am glad we have advanced in the way people perceive us. Showtime’s Nurse Jackie is another show which aired an episode where Peter Facinelli (Twilight) and Haaz Sleiman share a smack.
Why is it then that all of a sudden there are more Gay Indie films than you can ever watch. Why is it that every show, there is a gay character. Is it because we are now a commodity? Do our character bring in big advertising bucks – hey, Queer as Folk, The L Word were successful cable shows about the lives of gays and lesbians. What do you guys think?
John Lloyd Cruz and Luis Manzano is very much anticipated by viewers when the two stars share a kiss in their upcoming movie, In My Life.

John Lloyd Cruz doesn’t want to hype on his kissing scene with Luis Manzano

Ever since John Lloyd Cruz signed on to play a gay man in the Star Cinema offering In My Life co-starring Vilma Santos, many have been intrigued about the kissing scene involving him and the actor playing his lover in the film Luis Manzano. But at the press conference for the movie, John Lloyd admitted that he is concerned with the public’s overexcitement about the scene, which was shot at the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. “Natatakot kaming ma-label ‘yung eksena as ‘kissing scene.’ Hindi kasi siya basta kissing scene, it was an intimate scene. Napakaganda ng setting, hinintay talaga namin ‘yung tamang oras para ma-capture ‘yung the best lighting. Pinagsama-sama lahat ng factors and we were able to create a very beautiful scene. Sana kapag pumunta kayo sa sinehan hindi kayo nagaabang lang na ‘Uy! Magbra-brush na ‘yung lips nila!’ Sana makita niyo ‘yung tunay na intensyon ng eksena at ‘yung laman ng puso ng dalawang characters.”

I think this is very clever marketing. With his upcoming gay-themed movie, this commercial has very good and has a very attractive taste for viewers. Many people are anticipating the John-Lloyd Cruz – - Luis Manzano team up on All My Life as gay lovers in New York City.
If American commercials can be successful in this type of marketing, why not Pinoys right? Honestly, marketing of products to the gay community is nothing new in the U.S. – - it’s been in existence because most companies know the power of the pink dollar.
I absolutely adore the commercial.

GLAAD reports HBO – Ranks #1 in shows with Gay Characters
Posted by chuvachienes on July 27, 2009 · 1 Comment
According to Yahoo news, GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) has found HBO ranked highest to have shows that included gay characters; including bisexual and transgendered people last season as taken from June 1, 2008 – May 31, 2009.
HBO – 42%
Showtime – 26%
ABC – 24%
CW – 20%
Fox – 11%
NBC – 8%
CBS – 5%
Largest growth among TV networks is TNT which showed a 19% jump compared to 1% for the same season last year.
I guess we have to be thankful that they are including US everywhere now. It is a fact of life and the more people are exposed to it, the more they will understand what homosexuality is, what we are about and who we are.
“Television shows that weave our stories into the fabric of the series present richer, more diverse representations,” said Rashad Robinson, GLAAD’s senior director of media programs.
In September, GLAAD will release its annual report evaluating gay, bisexual and transgender inclusion, and other diversity, among scripted characters scheduled to appear during the 2009-10 season. Monday’s report said TV characters in general are predominantly white, regardless of sexual orientation.
Shows featuring gay characters include the following:
True Blood
Entourage
The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency
The L Word
Weeds
The United States of Tara
Brothers & Sisters
Desperate Housewives
Grey’s Anatomy
Raising the Bar

Lately, nalilinya sa gay roles si Paolo. Mukhang nag-e-enjoy siya rito at natsa-challenge kaya tinatanggap niya.
“Being gay in the movies is the most challenging role,” pagsang-ayon ni Paolo nang makapanayam siya. “Next na doon yung psychotic. Kapag lalaki ka talaga, ang hirap gumanap ng gay, kung paano mo makukumbinsi ang mga manonood. Iba-iba rin ang klase ng bading.
T.R. Knight on the cover of Entertainment Weekly

I don’t know why I think this but I had the hots for T.R. Knight more than McDreamy. He was my favorite character as George O’ Malley. He seemed to have that honest and good character in him.
Then, the scandal broke about Isaiah Washington calling him names while having an argument with Patrick Dempsey. Suddenly he became a household name. Being outed in that way seems improper but things do happen for a reason.
Now that he has decided to leave the top-rated Grey’s Anatomy, he speaks out about his experience.
Knight knows he’s taking a risk walking away from his top 10 show and $14 million contract. “From an outsider’s perspective, I get the [impression that] ‘He’s just a spoiled actor…he doesn’t know how good he has it,’” he says. “There are a lot of people who would like to be in my position. But in the end, I need to be fulfilled in my work.”
I sure am going to miss him but like every one of us, we know when it’s time to go. There’s just more to life than being miserable every day going to a job, and not enjoying what you do or have lost passion in what you do.
Go T.R. Knight! I can’t wait for what your next project will be!
