thewrestler_galleryposter.jpg

Back in the late ’80s, Randy “The Ram” Robinson (Mickey Rourke) was a headlining professional wrestler. Now, twenty years later, he ekes out a living performing for handfuls of diehard wrestling fans in high school gyms and community centers around New Jersey.

Estranged from his daughter (Evan Rachel Wood) and unable to sustain any real relationships, Randy lives for the thrill of the show and the adoration of his fans. However, a heart attack forces him into retirement. As his sense of identity starts to slip away, he begins to evaluate the state of his life — trying to reconnect with his daughter, and striking up a blossoming romance with an exotic dancer (Marisa Tomei) who is ready to start a new life. Yet all this cannot compare to the allure of the ring and passion for his art, which threatens to pull Randy “The Ram” back into his world of wrestling.

A overnight fan or an avid fan of Twilight? Download all books for free today.

twilight-philippines1.jpg

Like everyone else who were skeptical about Twilight (a vampire romance by Stephanie Meyer) and why it is such a hit among moviegoers, I wanted to find out what all the fuzz was about.  I saw the movie the other day and to my surprise, I was drawn to it like I have never been drawn to anything since “Interview with a Vampire”.

Maybe it’s because I am a hopeless romantic or maybe it’s because I am drawn to always loving the unreachable, the improbable. Or simply, I may just be one who still look forward to that ideal relationship that is probably not real. I am a sucker for love stories.

Ever since I watched the movie, I made it my goal to read the Twilight series. I haven’t been to the bookstore yet. I was looking for the book online and found a free download site. You can download all four books for free (and if you’re not sure if you’re going to like it, don’t run spending your hard-earned money just yet).

Yes folks, for FREE! You can download the books from a link that I will disclose after the JUMP. It’s in PDF format so make sure you have Adobe Reader.

As I predicted: ‘Twilight’ takes $70.6M bite out of box office

 pas0052twilight-posters.jpg

LOS ANGELES – Audiences found the vampire romance “Twilight” infectious in its opening weekend, pushing the movie to a take of $70.6 million.

Catherine Hardwicke’s film also enjoyed the biggest opening ever for a female director, blowing away the previous standard of $41.1 million set by Mimi Leder’s “Deep Impact” in 1998.

Drawing from its huge fan base of teenage girls, who fell for Stephenie Meyer’s novel of forbidden love between brooding vampire Edward Cullen and bookish high schooler Bella Swan, “Twilight” made a whopping $20,636 per theater, according to Sunday morning estimates.

And the fangirls will get another taste soon enough: Summit Entertainment, which released “Twilight,” announced during the weekend that it’s going ahead with production of “New Moon,” based on the second book in Meyer’s internationally best-selling series. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will return as its star-crossed lovers, but whether Hardwicke will be at the helm again is still being determined.

New “Dayo” theme song performed by Roots of Nature

dayo_animated_movie.JPG

For using 2D and 3D technology, the upcoming local animated feature Dayo can be considered a breakthrough for the animation industry of the Philippines. Yet the movie is not just about good animation since it boasts a touching story and a theme song that truly inspires.

“Lipad” is not an ordinary movie theme song as it needed brilliant collaborative efforts from really talented musical artists so as to deliver a finished product worth the billing. No less than international star Lea Salonga was tapped to sing the universally appealing composition by Jessie Lasaten and Temi Abad, which is about believing in your dreams and making them come true. While Lea provides enough power to stir the song to great heights, “Lipad” leaps further with an alternative version recorded by new band Roots of Nature.

Zac Efron and Matthew Perry fans – Hold on to your seats – “17 Again” Movie Trailer Released

With the success of High School Musical Series, there is no stopping Zac Efron’s rise to stardom.  A bevy of hit films under his belt as choreographer, Adam Shankman has been solidified as one of Hollywood’s most sought out man for dance moves. But it’s been as a producer that Adam has really found his brand of movies. With his Offspring Entertainment, Adam and sister/producing partner Jennifer Gibgot have proven those flicks – ‘funny with heart’ – are the way to go. Certainly, the “Step Up” flicks have proven their eyes are on the prize.
Last year’s Hairspray (which Adam also directed) brought out a shining star in Zac Efron. Of course, Zac was already a bonafied teen hottie with the Disney “High School Musical” franchise; however, Hairspray showed him off to a whole new audience

Slipping back into her Traveling Pants

Before joining the Sisterhood and becoming a Gilmore Girl, Alexis Bledel was just a ‘gentle girl’ from Houston

Raised in Houston by her Mexican mother, Nanette, and Argentine father, Martin, Alexis Bledel learned Spanish first. She’d love to use it on camera.

“I think it’s a little tricky because in the States, when they want a Latin actress, they want someone who looks sort of stereotypically Latin,” she says. “But I think I can get away with playing a Spanish or Argentine character. I really hope I get to do that someday.”

With “The Dark Knight” seeking to top the box office for a fourth straight week and comic book buzz still on a lingering Comic-Con high, it’s time to count down the top 10 comic book movie males of all time.

1. Christopher Reeve

No actor has ever seemed quite as super as Reeve, who played the Man of Steel in four films.

2. Will Smith

Big Willy’s no stranger to science fiction heroics, but his role as Agent J in the funny, edgy “Men in Black” movies – based on the 1990 Aircel comic book — might be his most memorable fanboy role yet.

Warner Bros.’ new action adventure The Dark Knight reunites several members of ensemble cast members from 2005′s Batman Begins with Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

The Hollywood actor says he welcomed the opportunity to once again inhabit the solitary figure, who in the new film has had to relinquish much of his personal identity for the greater good. He offers, “Bruce is certainly sacrificing, both mentally and physically, as a consequence of Batman whom he has unleashed and now is unable to rein in anymore. More than a persona, he has created a symbol, and that symbol can’t have limits. He can’t show weakness ever. So you have the conflict between what is good for Bruce Wayne and what is the right thing for Batman to do, because the two of them are not always compatible.”

Jared Leto’s weight gain for the film Chapter 27

Posted by  on March 31, 2008 · 1 Comment

Here’s our hottie Jared Leto during his normal hot self.

jared_leto-2-alexander.jpg

This is pretty scary. I have been working on losing 20 pounds for over a year now and still can’t do it. But our hunk for today, Jared Leto,  gained weight (almost 70 lbs) to play the role of Mark David Chapman (John Lennon’s assassin) in the film Chapter 27.

Actors do it all the time for their craft and I remember Oprah Winfrey on The Color Purple or Robert de Niro for The Raging Bull. The only thing disturbing about it is that it is unhealthy and could cause serious health complications later.

Now look at his poster from the movie Chapter 27 that opened up in select theaters this past weekend.

Summer is coming, time for our Hot Movie Trailers

Maybe because the last movie was lame. I didn’t like it so I didn’t watch it. It was so fake and too cartoony. I believe that is why the new “Incredible Hulk” film is here to redeem the hero. I loved “The Incredible Hulk” on television with Bill Bixby. I watched it faithfully then and when the movie came out – I believe around 2003, I was excited. Until I saw the trailer. That just drew the excitement out of me.

Not the new one though. I think this movie is about to redeem “The Incredible Hulk” and put it in a new light. What do you guys think?

A new gay-themed indie Film – Hugot

Posted by  on March 19, 2008 · 2 Comments

Indie films from the Philippines have surprised me in most recent months. We have multi-awarded film “Kubrador” starring Ms. Gina Pareno and other little Indie films that have gone mainstream. This is great news for the Philippine Film Industry as a whole and I hope that they continue to flourish. Digital media production is up as well and it’s refreshing to see many gay-themed films being produced. A new one is called “Hugot”. The film will be shown at U.P. Diliman on April 23rd. This may have the same success as “DayBreak” starring Coco Martin.

Take a look!

HUGOT Synopsis

Episode 1: “Raymond”

When Raymond’s youngest sibling, an out-of-school youth, fell victim to a hit-and-run, the obligation to collect money for the hospitalization was left to Raymond. One night, Raymond and his best friend Nolan scoured the entire city to find a victim. They are cell phone snatchers.

The transsexual Dorina, fresh from her victory as Miss Gay and P8, 000 richer, would be their prey. However, not only robbery would be committed as the partners in crime would accidentally kill the veteran gay beauty contestant.

What destiny awaits the two friends? Raymond’s critical sibling? Will justice be meted out for the slain gay?

Who is the true victim?

Episode 2: “Anton”

Anton’s nightly dreams are evocative: the rice field clothesline where burning garments are hanging, the ash of which gets into his eyes.

What do his dreams mean? How are these related to his present anguish and solitude? Will these inspire Anton into finishing his poem-in-progress, the poem for the beloved who left him or whom he left?

Episode 3: “Bimbo”

While youth activists Edward and Bimbo are heading home from a rally, the latter falls to the ground unconscious due to hunger and exhaustion. A middle-aged man helps Edward haul Bimbo’s body. Because the stranger’s apartment is nearby, he offers his place for the two to rest in before going home.

When he comes to, Bimbo learns from his friend Edward that they are in an unfamiliar place—the house of Leandro, the stranger.

Leandro prepares food for the young men as Melody, Leandro’s best friend, a funny liberated woman, visits the latter’s pad.

They both convinces the boys to spend the night through. The friends agree. They cannot decline the drink offered by Leandro. They become tipsy and their conversation meanders from politics, activism, gay rights and…sex.

Who is Leandro and what motive does he harbor over the teenagers?

The Counterfeiters Movie Trailer

Posted by  on February 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Writer/director Stefan Ruzowitzky explores the moral corrosion of Nazi complicity with this tightly wound adaptation of Adolph Burger’s fact-based book The Devil’s Workshop. Salomon Sorowitsch (Karl Markovics) may be a talented artist at heart, but his desire for wealth has driven him to use his creativity for more nefarious means. Arrested by the police inspector Herzog (David Striesow) at the onset of World War II, Sorowitsch is sent to the notorious Mauthausen concentration camp. It’s not long before Salomon’s thinly veiled opportunism earns him a relatively comfortable position as the camp’s resident sketch artist, and five years later he is mysteriously swept away to Sachsenhausen. Upon arriving at the camp Sorowitsch discovers that Herzog, now a commandant, is attempting to destabilize the economies of the Allies while simultaneously fund the Nazi war machine by assembling a special team of counterfeit artists to create millions in fraudulent pounds and dollars. As the operation gets underway, Sorowitsch finds the efforts of the team continually undermined by unyieldingly idealistic collotype specialist Adolph Burger (August Diehl). In the months that follow, the team wrestles with their consciences as Axis forces are gradually overwhelmed by Allied might. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide.

Director Joey Reyes to sign exclusive 3-picture deal with GMA Films

For his last project, isang indie film na mala-Pare Ko (one of Direk Joey’s best films) at pagbibidahan ng Studs ang kanyang gagawin. Pero may feeling ang PEP na madadagdagan ang movie assignment ni Direk Joey sa GMA Films na pinamamahalaan ni Annette Gozon-Abrogar at mae-extend ang kanyang kontrata.
