When a guy gets to wear pearls. #jewelmer #jewelmerJoaillerie @jewelmer #goldensouthseapearls

In my mind, there is no place on earth that is more beautiful than the beaches and islands of the Philippines.  Although I only got to live there for 18 years of my life, to this day, I still refer to it as “home”.  I have been a United States citizen forever and I love many things about living here in the US but my heart will always be at peace in the Philippines.

I am sure many migrants feel the same way.  Specially those from parts of the world where they were forced to migrate simply because of their own safety.  War-torn regions gave no choice to its residents but to flee and find a better life somewhere.  If you ask many of them (not all of them, cause I know some who will say that they will never go back to their god-forsaken country), they will tell you that if they didn’t have to leave their home country and live a better life there for them and for their children, they would have stayed.

I was a wanderlust at heart at a very young age.  I love discovering new places, meeting new people and experiencing new adventures.  I don’t mean climbing the top of Mt. Everest but just the simple things like seeing the Eiffel Tower in Paris for the first time or visiting the House of Mother Mary in Ephesus.  So, for me, coming here to the United States was just another adventure.  It took me years to accept that I now live here and that going home to the Philippines will be for an occasional and brief visits only.  I miss its simplicity, its warmth and welcoming aura.  Sure, there are problems there like poverty and messy infrastructure but if you look beyond that, you will see a country filled with happy people who are content with what they have and are willing to offer them to you, a visitor, and treat you as if you are a part of their own.

I visited Davao with friends of mine several years ago.  We stayed at a place called the Pearl Farm Beach Resort.  Davao is in the southern part of Mindanao.  The current mayor of that city at the time was the now-infamous President of the Philippines – Rodrigo Duterte.  Davao was considered one of the safest places you can visit in Mindanao because of their then-no-nonsense mayor.  He vowed to clean the city of crime and theft that he went as far as threatening anyone who will harm tourists that he said publicly, he will personally haunt for them. And that, he did.

Pearl Farm Resort

It was a beautiful resort!  We had a wonderful stay there and the professional staff couldn’t be more friendly and welcoming.  Despite the name, it’s not really a place where they farm cultured pearls.  It is simply a beautiful resort where you can relax and enjoy the wonders of the seas all around you.

Although, the clear waters around the island of Palawan in the Philippines made it perfect for pearl farming.  Most especially, the golden pearl.  I had never heard of a golden pearl until now.

I was introduced to the golden south sea pearl by a friend who, since I’ve known him, has had the eye for the most luxurious stuff.  I know him well for his love of religious antique statues and in time, I got to know his passion for luxury.  The Jewelmer golden south sea pearl is produced and stemmed from a partnership between a Filipino entrepreneur and a French pearl farmer.  They produce the most perfect golden south sea pearl and have become known worldwide for the quality of their products.  I admire golden south sea pearls but I can never afford them.  And, whoever has seen a man wearing pearls?  So, each time my friend shows me his new purchase, I could only sit back and admire from afar.  They are beautiful pieces indeed.  If you want to see how these pearls are made, follow the photo story here.

My friend is in the Philippines right now for a sabbatical / family mission and while he’s there, he sent me a photo of the Jewelmer Advocacy Bracelet.  It is made of one not-so-perfect shape golden south sea pearl but all proceeds from the sale will help preserve the seas of Palawan and donated to the Save Palawan Seas Foundation.  Besides being affordable (Approximately $70.00 USD), it is also fashionable and all for a good cause.  As a man, I never thought I would be able to wear pearl but I guess, there is always the first time.

Here’s the sample.  It comes in black and brown leather thread.  Available as a necklace as well.

So, I bought three!  Two bracelets and a necklace.

Although this is what I really wanted:

I just couldn’t afford it right now.  It may have to wait a little bit.

And yes, a guy can wear pearls.  🙂

Until next time!
